I’m really confused, I’m seeing this more and more, so I must be missing something. I keep seeing these threads like ‘GT350/350R/500 for sale, bought last week, drove it home 50/60/70 miles, asking 5-6-7K less than what I paid.’ Are people just impulse spending 60-70-80 grand or what is going on? I am humbly asking to be educated.
Did I miss a clue? My history is likely different from y'all's: First thought was "Scams". Online advertisement offers too-good-to-be-true deal contingent on the buyer's sending the money first, the seller disappears, and the car never really existed. It would be good to believe otherwise, and I'm trying real hard.

How about selling the Civic instead? Why not daily drive the Mustang? It's not like it's a Ferrari or Lamborghini.
It did cross my mind. Even bought a cheap set of used snow tires on steel rims to test it. Thing handles like a champ in snow.

Mustang sold this morning. I'm looking at something more rare for a garage queen. 2nd gen Viper most likely I have my eyes on before prices start going up.

Ah, I see. 2nd Gen Viper GTS is cool. I drove one back in 2002ish. A buddy and I rented one while in Las Vegas for spring break in College. 450 hp was a lot of power back then! His LS1 Camaro SS M6 at the time made around 400 crank hp, and my LT1 Trans Am M6 was about 350 hp at the time (we both made more power later).

It has happened to me several times, unfortunately. Mostly when you cannot have a proper (as in long enough) test-drive... but many times couldn't have a test-drive at all... like it's typically the case with motorcycles, and hard-to-find cars. The most expensive mistakes were the Nissan GTR and a Porsche Cayman GTS, both right at 6 figures; couldn't test drive either one. But have made many others up there in price too, like an Audi S6 V8TT, Lexus RC-F, V8, BMW M3 V8, etc. Not fun.
I bought my 2019 GT PP1 sight unseen. Wasn't interested in test driving. Have never owned a Ford or a V8 before, but I KNEW I would love it - and I do!! :)

Frankly, I'm amazed someone could impulse spend 50K on anything.

I think folks do not get, what owning a performance car is all about.

It's to drive, not to be "cool" it takes a different type of care. The car is the cool not a poser behind the wheel.

Did the exact same thing. However a V8 that's part of my DNA. The Ford part not test driving the Mustang stands.
I knew I was going to be thrilled and have not been disappointed.

What stands out about Ford as a car company? It offers a buyer straight up performance. And different option levels to select from.

Using the big 3 car manufactures web pages. 4 if Jeep (Dodge) is seen as another.
Found their offers are model / styled based packages, had not known or noticed that
before.

Enjoy your ride, cause it one hell of a car.

I've come from a previous Subaru WRX background, but an older model, and what has blown me away the most is the level of tech now in these Mustangs. Even just the digital display set up, and everything it can show you. I'm like a kid in a candy store, poring over all the menus, screens and options! I also spent several months watching dozens and dozens of videos online, so I knew I was in for a treat. Glad to see I haven't been disappointed at all :)

Some of my best car purchases were impulse buys and my worst purchases were on cars I convinced myself was "the one" over a period of weeks or longer.

I'm not really going to complain much. While my car isn't a GT350 let alone a GT500, its a brand new 2016 GT Premium with Performance Pack. I got it with 4700 miles. yes 4700 on a FOUR year old car.

From the guy's name that was still stuck in Sync, I'm assuming he was an older gentleman (listed as Granpa on the Sync system Bluetooth). Maybe he upgraded to a GT350 or something...

You could tell the car was NEVER driven in the rain.

I feel like so many dealers nowadays are offering a 5-7 day return/exchange period (mileage limits apply and blah blah), and I've personally test-driven about 3 different GT350's and 1 GT350R at various dealers. These guys must just be really unlucky with their choice of dealer I suppose.....

I've never found a local dealer that would let me drive a 350R, but a few that let me try out the USED 350's. Most of those had 10-12k miles on them

I had a 50/50 split on that.

One dealer with a used GT350 let us take it on a test drive. Fun car, but too stiff for my wife.

Before that, another dealer said a used GT350 was available for a test drive, but when we got there and he realized we wanted to see if we liked that one enough to order a new one, switched to "Well, if you're not planning on buying this car today, you can't drive it." Odds of that dealer ever selling us anything dropped to zero immediately.

Yeah the dealer here that pulled the "Sorry you cannot drive it unless you put a deposit down" was one I walked out on (Herb Chambers of Braintree, MA), but the one (Autofaire in Manchester NH) that was cool got all my business over the past few years until recently when they were marking up the GT350 almost 17 THOUSAND dollars and quote "I'm not worried, we will get that for it". I laughed and walked out. Fuckers.

I am somewhat guilty of this. I purchased a 2000 GT when I was young as my first "brand new" car, my parents even let me negotiate the deal so I had a huge emotional attachment to the car. I rarely drove it to keep miles down and sold it back in 2009 with around 10k miles on the odometer. Fast forward, I bought a 2007 Z06 Corvette and despite being used I only put maybe 500 miles on it before I convinced to sell it to hold out for a Viper (yes, the speed bug had me bad at the time). I never got my Viper and when the 2013 GT500 came out I knew I just had to have it and swore I'd drive it rain/snow/shine and bought one for a decent price of $64k at the time. I drove the car roughly 325 miles before I sold it to buy my current house and realized recently I have never fully enjoyed any car I've ever bought that isn't a beater. Mind you, in between all these cars I drove crap like a 1991 Geo Prism with missing paint or a Ford Escort just to save the miles on the cars. I recently picked up the 2019 GT Convertible that both my wife and I could enjoy and have already probably driven it more than my last two cars combined.

At the end of the day, for me it was about financial value and wanting to keep stuff nice. For whatever reason in my head I wanted to keep all the cars I bought and pass on to my son but later realized it wasn't practical. I am going to enjoy the GT and trade it in on the next bigger/better toy when it pops up.

I like high power cars that are fun to drive. It’s true that yes I can get bored quick but I don’t have that type of money to pay to play. Would love to have a GT350 to daily, but realistically the 5 oh is enough for my trips to work and food and a friends house. I think the 5 oh and 392 Scat Packs are the working man toys, checks the boxes on a lot areas.

Maybe in 20 years I’ll get a GT500. Until then it’s going to be focusing on my house lol
