Here is another video of the noise. I have around 6000k's on it and has been like it since new.

Hopefully the link works.

Yes, this is very clear. Same noise I have. Thanks for this.

OK, this last one is very clear. I don't have this noise when revving, but only when I really push hard the stick to the left on 2nd, otherwise it is not there, so this makes me believe it is kind of misalignment issue with the stick and the gearbox. The stick is a lever, it is mechanically joined with the gearbox, so if aligned too much to the left, it may be touching some area which has too much vibration, hence the sound. I really hope that's not the issue with the aluminum sync plates that smashed on hard shifting... I guess this problem was relevant to the Manual GTs only.

This is exactly as mine is too. As I said earlier today I am starting to swap out the shifter to the MGW. I will report back if anything changes, if nothing changes I am fine with that as I wanted to buy one anyways and this noise and a slight chance of it going away after install put me over the edge šŸ˜

Is it supposed to be normal on any manual in Mustang, or is it supposed to be normal for Tremec TR-3160? Ford never officially sold any Shelby model in Europe. So I guess it might be difficult to access statistically significant number of GT350 here.
The thing is, not all parts of the Shelby Tremec is in the Mach1.

I translate this from a german car site.

ā€žWhile it is true that the Mach 1 features the Tremec TR-3160 transmission, other key parts are still used from the standard GT. The double-disc clutch and the shortened shifting distance are the same as in the base Mustang. Reason could be that this was necessary to enable rev matching but is not available in the Shelby.ā€œ

But I donā€™t know the noise issues of the normal GT.

From the service manual: the GT has a coupling between the two pieces of the shift rod and this appears to have some rubber in it. The 3160 shifter has a thin polymer bushing in the coupling which would give less damping of noise/vibration.

according to representative from mgw, the linkage is exactly the same as for gt350 :

I am also having this "grinding noise" with all the symptoms, and I also believe the issue may be in this linkage. My mgw shifter is already delivered and I am going to install within this weekend, so will keep you updated.

as you can see at the following vid, the stock linkage is is far from perfect

Hey guys,

I managed to get a video of the shifter with the hiss:

I think it's pretty clear what's going on, exactly as described here. I'm also 100% sure this isn't normal. I don't know if it affects the car, probably not, but it literally grinds my gears.

Last few sound clips and this video capture it very clearly. This is some NVH that to me is not normal, probably not damaging but something is out of alignment or contacting a part of the car and resonance is transferred through the parts making the annoying noise.

I will press my lever hard to the left in 2nd and see if I can get it to make that noise. I normally don't hear anything like this with my Tremec. Will report back later today.

I assume this type of noise happens even after a fully warmed up transmission? It takes a while for it to get hot.

Superb video it shows the lever dip when the car is under load, and you moving it around and the sound goes away.

Yes even after a fully warmed up transmission. I've been driving it for more than 2 hours before I made the video.
Thanks! I actually only noticed the lever dip after I made the video.

Btw. I forgot to tell you, that the Mustang specialist where I was, put the pony on a hoist, and unscrewed some screws from the bottom from the gearbox and moved it a little to the left or right. (There are long holes like this to move the gearbox.)
So it was a little Bit better. But he said, we can move it still a little bit more when I come next time and itā€™s not good enough.
Maybe that can help.

(I hope you understand with my English what I mean)

Great. So you feel it got better after the repair? Could you ask him what he does exactly and eventually take some pictures where he does it, the next time you will go there?

Itā€™s just a little bit better. Before I heard it in every left sharp turn. After this ā€žgearbox movementā€œ we could not hear it together on a test drive with the same sharp left turns. But then when I drove home I could hear it sometimes again when the radio was low and concentrate on it.

I will go mid-September again for the service then I will ask what exactly he does.
But I think itā€™s easy. It was finished in 2 min. Unscrew or lose 2-4 screws a little bit then you can move the hole gearbox a little and screw the screws tight again.
I would say you have to move it a little bit to the right site.

He said to me the gearbox was not exactly in the middle. When itā€™s not better yet we can move it still a little bit more.

Alright. Indeed it sounds easy. Even too easy to believe Ford could not have taken care of it themselves, but then again, probably for the same reason it could be easily missed.
The idea that it just needs to lose the transmission and move it a bit to one side (wherever the right side is ) sounds about right and I guess, once I could see it on my car it hopefully becomes obvious.

Nevertheless, please report back after your second visit.

I believe you are meaning this four bolt gearbox support plate, as you can see, there is some room to move because of oval holes...

so after all, it may be a combination of unquality linkage and misalignment

Yes I think these are the screws.
But i am not sure that you can solve the hole issue with that.
But it would be an explanation as some people have the issue and some don't.

We will seeā€¦
