Hello; Sometime in the 1990's in KY the "experts" began programs which were more focused on "self esteem" than actual education. To expound on this would take a lot of writing. I will touch on one item for now.
AT some point we teachers were instructed to not mark mistakes in a students work. We were told to ignore misspelling, math mistakes and so on. We were to search for some thing the student did correctly and give positive comments only.
This was in the 90's so more than one generation has passed thru the school systems by now. I get my one example is not enough to make a case, but there was much more.
I use to tell a joke about this to my fellow teachers. Keep in mind this is a joke. Situation= Mary just shot Johnny five times. Proper response is "Mary you had an excellent grouping of your shots."
An extreme sort of parody, but faithful to the practice.
