Public Service Announcement, basically. My washing machine, during its final spin cycle, all of a sudden went way out of balance and starting vibrating the entire place. I get to it, it's smoking and I see flames. I take it apart using a YouTube video of a repair guy describing the commonality of the cause of this happening to find what you see in these photos. The machine is 11 years old and obviously out of warranty. Samsung, when I called, had the nerve to tell me that because the machine was taken apart by me (not an authorized repair person) and that it's out of warranty, "it has no value to them" and they will not help in any way. It has value to me -- it washes my clothes and an in-kind replacement is about $900. The clear issue is a materials defect -- the part that you see broken supports the drum. This should have been made of stainless steel or a hard composite plastic that would not degrade like this. Found out later the internet is awash with this exact same issue happening, only with me it was a spin cycle and that caused the out of balance drum to rub against the tub (metal to plastic contact at high RPM). I figured Samsung would maybe throw me a few bucks... absolutely nothing. I was very nice on the phone, too. Nothing. It's way out of warranty, I get it. But who's washing machine starts on fire when it dies? Maybe it leaks. But starts on fire? Maybe the dryer, but the washer? What if I wasn't home? Insane.

They make decent TV's, avoid the white goods.

So you didn’t give this important info though, because probably more folks also have Samsung washers:

Model number
Front loader or upright?
What forum or tech thread did you find out about your specific issue?

Sammy is only for Tv's and BD players. I would never touch them for a fridge or washer. All this junk today is not made to last a few years. Look at a washer built in 1973 vs what they make today.

Sorry your having problems and I"m not trying to put down your post,but... The machine is 11 years old, not sure how many times you wash clothes each week.but how long do you expect things to last.

I purchased a 12 inch tablet from Samsung for about $900 a little while ago, and it stopped working eight months later, I went online to have a repair ticket made for it so I could get it serviced.... The first problem I had was they didn't want to warrantee it.. And after 10 minutes of making my point the online woman says "are you happy you're getting your precious tablet fixed now" ... That's an amazing comment I think, and as you see by my photo I have currently switched to Apple products.

I agree, 11 yrs is pretty good for a washer. Mine is 5-6 yrs old and have had to replace the hot and cold valve twice already.

This is why Sears/Kemore are having issues now. Find machines but internet price warriors have done them in.

It is recommended you replace a washing machine ever 10 to 13 years... your use falls in line of that recommendation.

Sorry this happened... but it is time to move on....

I'd not buy a Samsung washer/dryer anyway... must have been cheap on purchase so you should count your lucky stars it lasted this long.

An old as dirt washer failed, you screwed with it, and you wanted Samsung to do what?

Give you money?

I'd have told you to get lost as well.

My advice, don't replace it with a Whirlpool Cabrio. Bottom bearing dries out and it will sound like a jet plane taking off. They don't make 'em like they used to.

My 4 year old Whirlpool is junk, and it was only me for 2 of the 4 years, and 2 of us the last 2 years.
