I would tend to agree with you. I had my 15' EB in Monroe Township for 2 1/2 years. I had the Craig's bracket but decided to leave it off and put the plate behind the back seat. I did get pulled over once for a fast stop sign and the officer noticed the missing plate but said nothing.I've been driving my car in NJ without the front plate for 3+ years. Some friends have been doing it for longer than that. I think it's a myth that cops are looking for sportscars without front plates. They have more important things to worry about.
Honestly I would get a bracket, mount it and leave the plate off. If questioned just say you forgot to put it back on after a car wash and ask for forgiveness. The bracket is cheaper than a ticket.
