What I have heard for 2018 MY.

New hood, new fenders, new taillights, more power.

What I want for S650. The S550 looks great. Ford should continue down that path. It will likely take cues from the Shelby, if the 2018+ refresh doesn't already set it down that path.

Lighter: Ford will not do all aluminum. Nor should they do all aluminum. No business case there. Remember Fast Fun Affordable. However a mixed material strategy is often times much better. If the S550 was aluminum in the same places as the Camaro, it would weigh less.

I imagine the chassis will be an evolution. With no drastic monument changes. That could be awesome for S550 owners. What I would really like to see:

Aluminum Cradles
Aluminum suspension links
Aluminum knuckles
Aluminum bumpers

Within the body at a minimum.
More high strength steels, more tailor welds, scalloped panels
Cast aluminum shock towers would be a nice to have.

Continual improvement with the 2.3 and 5.0.

With the demand for factory performance, and the fact Ford probably like to sell it to you vs the aftermarket tinker with it.

I would really like to see more performance options trickle down. I know it builds in complexity and overhead at the plant. But the best thing about the 1LE Camaro is you check a box. No some Hollywood fable to get a Shelby at MRSP.

I genuinely believe the S650 will see the death of the V8 GT and in place will have the 3.5 EB. I also think we will see a hybrid Mustang, as the S650 will carry the nameplate through the new CAFE standards.

I think it will be ok for some time. It's Corporate Average, all those little ecoboost fiestas, fusion hybrids, and aluminum trucks are helping that.

Why has the Mustang always been a sales success because it has always been affordable. Ford knows this so I don't think they will go the way of the camaro and price the Mustang out of sight.

Nah, everyone else just read the topic of the thread. No one is asking for a frilled-out base GT model. You can go to the 2018MY refresh model topic if you want to beat that dead horse.

What Ford should to do with the S650, and what it WILL do, are two totally different things.

Just sit back and let the accountants sort it out.

Having been through the debacle of the S197 to S550 change, I know what Ford initially claims it will do, is not what they will do.

Has almost an all aluminum body now...just had a bunch of hail damaged fixed...ask me how I know. Definitely needs to remove the pork though. How to do that without keeping costs from going through the roof I dunno. I would also expect something more dramatic then 500hp though with the current engine wars.
