Good morning from Kansas City!

New girl, checking in. I haven’t taken a road trip in the mustang yet, but the countdown is on. In two weeks, I’ll be driving from the Midwest to the West Coast. Tell me about your longest trip over the road. What have the pros and cons been? I’ll be taking my 2015 5.0.

Happy Saturday! ☺

My longest in my 2017 gt was the north west of England to the south east of Spain via France. 1500 miles each way. Great traffic free roads where you can set the cruise to 85 and sit back watching the scenery go by.

Only down side is relatively frequent fuel stops. Once every 300 miles In opposed to once every 600 miles in a more sensible car. One more thing . If you have a noisy exhaust set up that could be a bit annoying On a long run. Mine is fairly quiet so not too bad.

We’ve done several 2,500 mile trips. Remember it has a small gas tank when you get out west.

I did two 11 hour drives, to Michigan and back (22 total hours driving) in three days.

There were no negatives. I cannot imagine a better Grand Touring vehicle. Quiet, comfortable, plenty of room, stable, planted, confidence inspiring......just perfect.

Well.....I suppose the MPGs weren't the best, but let's ignore that.

Longest trip was Sunriver, Oregon to Reno, Nevada +- 400 miles one way
Several trips to Oregon Coast +- 200 miles one way

2018 PP2 with Recaros.
Some people say the Recaros are uncomfortable, but they are comfortable to us.

Lots of fun, no complaints.
Enjoy that Mustang!

Love traveling in the Mustang! Had mine 13 months and it's been on 6 trips between 150 and 600 miles. Storage can be an issue but the trunk will hold two carry on size bags with room for a couple of smaller pieces. We use a small ish soft side cooler to ride on the back seat.
The EcoBoost gets 28+mpg on the highway so I have no complaints there either.

To be honest I tested lots of gt cars at the same price in the U.K. when I bought my mustang. Used jag xkr, used Maserati grantourisimo etc. And I ended up buying a new mustang gt. More comfortable than the Maserati and more relaxing to drive. Not as pointy! The jag was better and faster I will accept. But no rear seat space at all

The GT is a great road trip car, gas is meh... Highly recommend the AA spare tire with an impact just in case. Enjoy

New York to Florida. 1200 miles in 2 days with my brother. Day one it was all good times. Day 2 my brother turned into Satan. :(

week later

Florida to New York. 1200 miles in 2 days. My brother took a flight home thank you very much. My wife and daughter rode back with me. It was pretty calm surprisingly.

I would of thought it all to be opposite :)

Mustang was like driving a luxury car. It was a pleasure the entire time.

We drove from Iowa to Colorado and then all around Colorado sightseeing before driving back to Iowa in our 2019 Bullitt with Recaros. It was surprisingly comfortable for me. My wife in the passenger seat wasn't quite as comfortable. Being shorter she said the headrest part of the seat was in an uncomfortable position. My 7 y/o was fine in the back.
We really had plenty of room for everything. I'm sure my wife would have like to bring more stuff, but it worked out fine.
I don't know why, but I was really surprised in how well the car did for the whole trip. It was a lot of different types of roads. The Bullitt did great on Pikes Peak and Trail Ridge Road. It was right at home cruising down the interstate too. I can't wait for the next road trip!

Just drove my 19 ecoboost with my youngest daughter from SW Florida to central Michigan and back. 3288 miles total in 58 hours of driving. Had my cruise set on 77 the whole way and averaged 33.4 MPG. The gas tank could hold out longer than our bladders could so it all worked out great.

SE Indiana to SanDiego California - four total round trips. The initial trip out was the move to SD. Made it in a 1984 Escort GT with no AC or cruise control. Went the southern route I-75s to I-65s to I-40w to I-30w to I-20w to I-10w - and finally I-8w into SD. Made that same full round trip again go home on leave the following Christmas. A couple years later I made the second round trip from SD to SE Indiana in a 1983 Mazda RX-7. Went I-15n to I-40e to I-44e to I-70e to I-74e (the new Route 66 route into Saint Lous) and then took the southern route again back to SD. The third trip was made in a 1990 Pontiac Grand AM and I again chose the route 66 trip previously listed east. A buddy flew out and drove back with me and we made that leg in 29 hours. The return leg in that trip back to SD I will refer to as the central northern route back on the return to SD which consisted of I-74w to I-80w to I-67w to I-70w to I-15w. That route took me through Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and back into Cali. The last leg (which completes four round trips) was my final return from serving in the military out there and I took the I 44 route again but this time caught the Grand Canyon on the southern rim on the way home.

Staying on route the central northern route return leg was the most interesting to drive. The toughest drive of them all was the southern route in the Escort (no cruise control and a stick shift...in fact every car I made the trip in was a stick shift car). I regret always being in a hurry trying to beat time and set a personal best driving tme record rather taking the time to stop and see things even going off course a bit to do so...until the list trip home in which I did go to the southern rim of the Grand Canyon and drive through the painted desert. Wish i had stopped to see the Petrified Forest and looked for other things as well to see along the way. But I was young and always in a hurry.

Just finished a week long trip covering about 1200 miles. We have a 2018 GT Premium and the wife and I were both extremely impressed and pleased with the ride and comfort. I was also happy with the gas mileage....averaged 27.8 MPG over the entire trip.

Smooth and easy driving with the power to get you where you need to go....best of both worlds!!

Is 300 miles about the max for a full tank on a 5.0 during trips?
