So is it true that you should run the AC a few times in winter to keep the compressor free and running? Or is this an urban legend thing. On my first 2018 I had the compressor and other bits replaced….it worked fine. Then all winter long I did not run AC at all, soooo the first time I did….I got a brief shudder and that burning compressor clutch smell…..after that it did work but then I always had a high pitch whine when it ran. I wanted it replaced but since it was working…they would not do it. I assume it would die for good at some point….but I traded it.

I know running the defroster runs the compressor, so you may not actually have to run the AC.

It’s in an underground garage so it never gets frost on the windshield. But perhaps your right.

Keep the climate controls on auto with the AC button lit.

As part of the overall assembly, compressor oil is added before the refrigerant. The oil and refrigerant do circulate together, the oil lubricating the internals.

Correct. But if you store your car away for the winter, it's not going to matter either way.

You never had to put on the defroster to clear fog off the inside of the window when it's muggy outside?

In the summer yes. Not in winter.
