Please tell me Ford didn't make that abomination. Looks like it popped out of a cartoon. Ewww!
I wish they didn't, but in early 90's manufacturers did some weird concept cars, and unfortunately this was conceived by Ford too. Bt don't worry, Chevy was no better:

Question is, why would they try to make a Miata out of a Corvette?

That was concept car for SN95

And it was actually quite well received at the time.

As was the concept for the s197. Which looks weird now looking back.

S550 didn't really have a concept premier.

I'm surprised that it was received well at the time, but then again, it was the period of futuristic design, where many concepts were like that too (GT90). And this is the best concept for a Mustang in my opinion, Mustang Milano from 1970:

I know that it doesn't have too many distinctive features of a Mustang, it's pretty much a stand alone car, but for the 1970s it would have been one of the best looking cars, and one of the best looking Mustangs in history.

As for the concept for the S550, I think that manufacturers have somewhat slowed down on concepts, as it's a 50/50 chance that the public will like it, that a PR department doesn't want to take. I remember at the time when the concept of the S197 came out (the one from Giugiaro- http://i.blogs.es/533803/mustang_giugiaro_concept-01/original.jpg , http://carsmedia.ign.com/cars/image/article/749/749871/giugiaro-mustang-20061207050927780.jpg , http://risedine.com/cars/1429790401/ford-mustang-sbagliato-ford-mustang-giugiaro-3f3977c.jpg ) it was one of the coolest things out there, and then I was somewhat disappointed that it didn't cary over some design cues to the production model (such as the single piece glass windshield/roof/rear window which would have been a nightmare if it broke). It does look weird now (especially the ugly back, which didn't seem ugly back then), but back in the day it was really one of those things that you wantewd when you first saw it.

Looks too much like a Hemi-Cuda which is not bad, just not right for a stang

Other than the terrible back it looks like a cross of an S197 and S550! If it had IRS and FI I might have bought one

Of everything above the Mach 3 cartoon mobile is by far the worst.

If Ford does a Mach I it will be an SE model like the Boss and IMHO it will be powered by a V8. The Ecoboost and it's derivations are targeted toward the younger demographic that may not be as aware of the Mustang history as some of us slightly older supporters. The Mach I will likely be directed toward those who can recall the older Mach I models and would like to purchase another or never go the chance to purchase a Mach I "back when". Just my $.02
The original Mach was an appearance package and wasn't linked to the highest performance engine option.

...just sayin' :)

Wow, yeah super ugly! The best part for Ford fans is how closely that ugly concept resembles the actual production cars!

Wasn't the Mach 1 originally what we today would see as a "GT" badge? And I thought you could get a 428 Cobra Jet in a Mach 1.
