Does anyone else get an almost unbearable road noise when driving on concrete covered roads or more specifically, the concrete sections on the west side of the M25.

I have driven up there and back a few times and it really is horrible. A whine/drove that stops you even wanting to talk at times as you have to almost shout to hear each other.

Now, my rears are getting pretty low thread wise but I am not sure this is the reason as it was the same about a month or so ago.

Its at all speeds, does not go away at all if you weave gently from side to side, speed up or brake.

I have had this with lots of cars on these horrible roads but not as bad as this.

I Hate that section of the M25. I once pulled over in my 350Z as it was so loud I was convinced I had a flat!

I obviously don't know what it sounds like in the mustang but I think it's just that section of road that is bad. If it sounds ok on normal Tarmac you probably have nothing to worry about

Yes that part of the M25 drives me mad, not sure it's as loud in my other car but it's definitely amplified through on those tyres.Get on a different surface and it goes away.I remember putting different tyres (Make) on my Freelander and it sounded like a whine at the back. I put the originals back on and it was fine.

I have 40 section 19s on my DD and the noise is appalling on that section. It varies with tread pattern but it's not your car. I also think they have been grooving the surface as the old concrete has got polished, to help water clearance.

Ha ha.

Well I am heading towards the big 5 0 this year so I would say maybe you are right but my 15 year old alongside me was the first to complain about it on Saturday!

Yup, me too, and I have had it on a couple of other stretches of road too. On that bit of the M25 a lot of people used to drive at around 100mph until they put the cameras in :tsk: I think at the problem is as much because you are pinned to a specific speed. I don't think it was as bad before (or maybe it just didn't last so long)!

In my 928 S4 I had an awesome drive over concrete on a German autobahn. Accelerating through 80 to 150 you got a noise like a jet fighter taking off. Why can't we build just one or two de-restricted roads here in the UK? M1 bypass just for cars, minimum speed 100mph?

I had this problem on Friday after I joined the M25 from the M3 anti-clockwise. I thought it was from the engine/transmission initially and soon realised it was the surface. Its worse when you accelerate!

I live near that bit of the M25. It's a really loud howl.

Blimey.
I didn't expect this much response. They shouldn't be able to lay a surface that does this. Imagine u had to drive for hours on it?

I have experienced said noise on that stretch of the M25 and also on a little stretch of the A12 where the surface changes to concrete. As soon as you hit the tarmac surface everything seems so much quieter. IIRC they put that concrete surface in many years ago to test it for various things, drainage, grip levels, glare etc to be used else where but I guess road noise still doesn't matter as it's still there but thankfully not many other places.

Not that it matters because I always abide by the speed limits :), but don't think there are cameras on that bit, are there? They're very easy to spot underneath the gantry and to the side of the gantry

I have driven that patch of concrete on the M25 in the glare of a low sun and with the horrendous spray after heavy rain which meant that no driver could see the lane marking. A nightmare and very dangerous. As soon as off the concrete no spray and no problems.
