I am getting some feedback or speaker crackle under acceleration, from the center speaker. I disabled the "fake engine noise" function and it's still coming through faintly. Anyone know how to remove the center speaker without breaking clips? I assume you'll have to remove the dash piece with the vents, which just pulls off from the passenger side, but I'm wondering how to remove the center speaker grill specifically. Any ideas?

Speaker grill should lift up and toward you after you remove the front section. Only clips hold it on.

If you pull it, let us know if the navigation voice still works. I understood that the voice controls only came from the center channel.
And fwiw, I get some of that crackle from my tweeters as well.

It still works, but does get softer. Definitely worth it for the sound improvement. The center speaker ruins the system.

I did the same on my focus st, it really cleaned up the soundstage. Much better stereo separation.

Removed the center speaker last night and the system sounds way better. the center channel flooded the front of the car with audio and it seems to be much more evenly spread now. I managed to lose a 7mm socket in the dash behind the sync display, I went from speaker feedback annoyance to socket rolling around in the dash annoyance. haha, I have a magnetic grabber in the mail thankfully, should arrive today. Thanks for the tips

Y'all are better of putting a better speaker in the middle. Vocals are supposed to come from the center windshield - if we want to be technical car audio gurus. :)

The center speaker in this car is absolute bullshyte rubbish poop.

What speaker do you suggest to replace it with? :)

I need to get at my center speaker. What 'front section' needs to be removed first? Is the upwards facing grill above the center vents and gauges, right?

I have some sort of noise that sounds like a small rock hopping around when the speaker is in use. That's what I think it is because it started after a dust devil whipped a bunch of sand into my car one day.

Anyway someone please help me with how to remove the interior trim to get to this speaker without breaking clips or trim panels. The noise is driving me mad.

You can look at this video to see the panel removal

I just ordered a Polk 3.5 to replace the center.
Ill report back on Thursday with results. If all goes well, I will have the other speaker of the pair for sale.

I tend to like Morel, Hertz/Audison, and Focal Flax. Expensive stuff.

AWESOME 3/3.5" drivers can be found on Parts Express for nothing... so cheap you can try a few out. I'd get the most efficient one you can find with a paper or natural fiber cone.

If I ever get to it, I have a Hetz Mille Legend setup for this car, but... I need about 5 days with a garage, a router, and lots of beer to show quality it... if I can't make it 10/10 I don't bother when it comes to audio... it's a disease.

Here is the crappy center speaker. It's a 2 ohm 25 watt.
Showing the dash for reference.
Will be installing a Polk tomorrow, will post pics and impressions.
