firstly, I have to say, I love the quality of the Redline hood strut kit, very high quality, BUT Ive noticed over the last month, they no longer lift the hood on their own, I have to lift the hood myself, the hood stays up itself once up, but imo, it is inexcusable for the struts to be weakening already. Redline Tuning care to offer some assistance? these were bought brand new from American Muscle in May 2016

Are they actually designed to raise the hood or are they simply there to hold the hood open?

Hello Scott, I'm sorry to hear you are having an issue with our system. We have a 4 year warranty on all of our components so please send me a PM and we will take care of the issue.
Regards,
Andreas

I've got question maybe you can answer me, Scott. How do you close the hood with struts? Once you have it down, do you have to press down on the hood firmly? Or can you still drop the hood from a couple of inches high?

I ask because I've been thinking of getting a set, but with the thin flimsy sheet metal on these cars I don't want hood dents if someone other than me closes the hood.

The wife already dented my trunk lid closing it. I was lucky though since I could access the back side and push it back out.

That's speaking volumes for their customer service. And nice wheels on your DIB. (I'm a little biased, though. Mine is the same color).

Never thought about this. Very curious myself because I notice that I have to drop my hood kind of hard in order for it to shut. It won't close if I do it gently.

I drop it from about 5-6" I dont have to touch it from the top, just a small drop

As others have stated our QuickLIFT system will not affect the closing of the hood as the hood will drop naturally from about 16inches high.

The action on the Redline struts is like, incredibly smooth.

Closing it is a very natural and fluid action, once it gets a little over a foot from closing it perfectly sets it down without slamming like crazy. You just kind of guide it down for the first bit and it takes over.
