Rear Suspension Still Creaking - Video

Well this has been my problem of the year, and it seems it's not over. A brief summary of events from this year...

After my first long trip of the year - several hundred miles, I noticed the rear end was creaking real bad - a rubbery creak, and popping/clunking. Easily replicated the creaking by bouncing from the trunk area. In to my trusted local Ford dealer, and after a few visits they diagnosed the rear shock absorber on the passenger side (UK car). Sure enough, the creaking was gone after this was replaced - new shock mount bolts were installed also.

Immediately after that, I got a metallic clicking sound on weight transfer from the driveline - taking off/reversing from a stop or on deceleration. Slowly got worse over a few weeks, but this turned out to be the hub/bearing assembly - swapped out, no more clicking, probably unrelated I'm thinking.

Although subtle, this clunk/pop was still noticeable to me. After a bit of a drive, say 5 miles/half an hour of driving, it seems to start. When I stop, bouncing on the rear end will recreate the clunk, and I guess still a bit of a creak. Video below will show this.



Most recently I had a specialist look at my suspension when it was in for a brake caliper paint job. They struggled to replicate to begin with, but did test drive for a diagnosis, and inspected it anyway. There answer was that there wasn't anything that isn't normal in their experience in terms of drive line noise, they went on to explain that after long drives the tolerances do change and that's where some of the creaks and pops come from. In my limited experience I understood that as worn (but not quite yet damaged) bushings. And that's as far as I've got.

I've got some piece of mind knowing that a specialist has not seen anything of concern, but at the same time my ears are tuned to this noise and it sort of spoils my experience at times. If I know exactly what the issue is, that will make it easier to live with or I'll likely pay for the bushings to be swapped out, if the parts/labour aren't too expensive.

A little reluctant to take it back to Ford. Although they are in general a great dealership (independent), they have limited experience with the Mustang.
