Reading text iphone 7

I have a 2015 Mustang and had an Android. The Android would read incoming text. My new IPhone 7 doesn't. Is there any settings I can check?
I did a search and didn't find anything useful. Thanks in advance

Yes once its paired with the phone you need to goto your iphone, into bluetooth, press the blue "i" next to SYNC then make sure "Show Notifications" is enabled.
