The chassis preface. My ‘16 Rs are GRs. GR227 and GR378. Hence HRs, JRs, KRs and LRs. I agree the Pilot Production cars are cool, but I think only the 37 ‘15 Rs will fetch a high dollar from collectors in the distant future.
Amazing that you have 2 , 2016 GT350R’s . What colors? Miles now ? As a note on this collector thoughts, there is one preproduction GT350R registered now , built 5/24/2015 that has its own Chicago Auto Show video when shown by Ford on you tube . PP011 . Built almost two months before the famous 37. My thinking it’s a Unicorn. Hoping that it’s worth a little more?

GR378 is black/white stripes. GR227 is DIB/black stripes. GR378 is low miles (garage queen) and was found while looking for a non-R DD. It fell in my lap for a “stdeal” that I couldn’t pass up. Blue gets driven, but not as a DD. Still looking for a GT350 DD.

Until we know exactly how many Pre-Production R models were assembled for the 2016 MY I suggest that it is difficult to determine if your car is really a unicorn?

Keep in mind that there were more Pre-Production GT350/R's built for the 2016 MY (95) than all of the other 5 GT350/R model years combined therefore suggest that there may have been many 2016 Pre-Production R models produced during 2015.

I am not suggesting that you don't have a rare and collectible car, but until someone can determine exactly how many of the 95 Pre-Production GT350/R cars for the 2016 MY were actually R models and when they were assembled then it is really hard to say if your car is a unicorn or not?

I recall locating the first 2 seat and first 4 seat Pilot Production 2012 Boss 302 cars (PP0001 & PP0002) that were assembled in October of 2010 as 2012 MY cars.

It took me a great deal of work and reconnaisance in order to determine that the FRAP only built 12 Pilot Production 2012 Boss 302 cars after which time I was very fortunate to obtain Window Stickers for each of these 12 PP cars.

Once the 2012 Pilot Production cars were determined along with pertinent documentation I then decided to take it to the next level and was able to determine that Ford also produced 12 TT (Tooling Tryout) cars along with 44 MP (Mass Production) cars and was able to obtain Window Stickers for each of those cars as well.

If you add up the total Pre-Production 2012 Boss 302 numbers which was the launch year for the Boss 302 you can see that Ford produced 68 Pre-Production cars compared to 95 Pre-Production cars for the 2016 GT350/R launch year.

Yes Harry, exactly as 95 of both 350’s combined I’ve read and heard from more than one source. but ford said that most were destroyed . That’s why having one now can unicorn one if only 3 or four have been saved and now owned was my thoughts , not that they once were built but most destroyed and only three were sold the public . also diversified system technologies ( DST) does a number of corrections to I.e. body panel/interior / clear coat to pre production cars . Chad Hober of DST said corrections can be very expensive and that expense that Ford paid for comes on a pre production car like PP011 . You mentioned Hamadi’s red one has a custom exhaust upgrade and some others undisclosed. That to me would unicorn his over regular production cars . So fun to find needles in haystacks of our hobbies. Limited production I feel definitely can increase them for collectibility.

Jim, after spending the better part of 3 years researching the Boss 302 Pilot Production cars I totally get what you are saying but have been down that same road before you.

After locating and purchasing "PP0001 & PP0002" I contacted Ford at both the FRAP and at FP in Dearborn after which time they told me that both of those cars were also destroyed therefore would never reach the general public.

Based on those conversations a meeting with FP in Dearborn ensued after which time it was agreed that those 2 cars got away from Dearborn but that the other 10 PP cars were definitely destroyed.

It wasn't long after that time frame when I made contact with a friend of mine who located and purchased "PP0003" which was the only 1 Pilot Production car of the 12 cars that was built and assembled to Canadian specifications.

Shortly after that scenario I located "PP0004" at Jacky Jones Ford in Cleveland, Georgia and ended up with a great friend of mine in August, Ga.

Then "PP0005" showed up in Ohio and ended up with a Ford dealership who sold that car to a collector.

I was also assured that very few of the 44 MP cars would get out to the general public for purchase which was really funny especially when I located 11 of these MP cars sitting on one Ford dealership alone in South Carolina.

Additionally I was told that absolutely none of the 12 TT cars would ever get out to the general public as they were all destroyed.

Well, I located "TT0001" down in Texas and it had over 11,000 miles on it and was purchased from a local Ford dealership, therefore so much for that positive and sure information.

Back on Monday, October 12th, 2015 at Sebring International Raceway I was very fortunate to test drive numerous 2016 Pilot Production GT350R models and also took note of the PP chassis numbers of the cars that I did not drive but others that did as there was a lot of these cars there.

Based on the above and my many past experiences I suggest that you do not rely on someone at Ford suggesting that most 2016 PP GT350R's were destroyed as I am not buying that.

I would be tickled pink to have one of 11 pre production Boss 302’s , knowing what DST does to them snd only 11? Way cool . And if I use the one GT350R built compared to GT350’s the out of the known 95 ? Then only 19 GT350R pre production? That’s Way cool also. But we haven’t found any other 2016 GT350R pre production released yet ? Just PP011, so these magnificent 37 R’s of course are already collector cars . Now let’s find another 2016 pre production GT350R? I thought I heard of one yellow one ?? Anyone?

I don't feel sorry for them, as they may find joy in seeing the cars as simply pieces of art or even investments.

However, I do feel sorry for the car. As time goes by, the non-use just rots the car away from the inside. I find too much joy in driving so I could never stash a car away and just let it sit. I feel it'd be like having a greyhound and not letting it out to run, or just keeping any creature locked in a cage its hole life.
My dad keeps telling me to get another car. I just can't. It would mean one would always be sitting and I can't do that. If I like a car, I want to drive it. EVERY. DAY. Could I afford to have a few more cars? Yeah. But I feel like I'd just be mistreating them.

2016 GT350R PP004 was owned by Ford Performance Racing school. Just purchased it this week. Got lucky that a previous buyer backed out. The team at the school were great to deal with.
Car has a VIN and build sticker. Built in May of 2015. Would love to know more about the car if anyone has knowledge how the school got the car and its transition to race car.
I intend to find as much history as I can.

Fantastic find , PP004 is still here. How Ford Performance chooses wasn’t even something that the Rep would share, let alone any information on these pre production Shelby’s or how many R’s . What I’ve garnered is if it went to DST for paint, body and interior show perfection or not by a TAG number on the MSRP at the bottom of the options list. Ford Performance for a fee Will send you a copy of its certification of build and date. Yours being built by The professionals at Ford performance makes yours a unicorn for track experiences. Was yours sold with a title to be street able? If the odo wasn’t kept in place it would be at a minimum a TMU car . At least there’s two pre production GT350R’s now . One a show street and one track . looks like yours will be in Missouri and mine and Hayden Idaho. Congratulations, I sure think it’s beautiful in black .

Fred, first of all congratulations on the purchase of this very cool 2016 R Pilot Productiion model as it doesn't get much better than that at least from my standpoint!

Recently was sent pictures of your car and along with the Red side mirror caps and also believe that there was some Red on the outer part of your CF rear wing?

After some discussions last week with a fellow car buddy I thought that he may pull the trigger on this vehicle but he passed at the last minute for car #51.

I believe that a Pilot Production GT350 Track Pack vehicle was also for sale at the same time with the VIN on that PP unit ending in "G5200121" and was car #22.

Quite sure that FP did not run the CF wheels on these units and replaced them with an after market alloy wheel?

Assume that you were working with Tommy R. on this transaction as it was my understanding that he was very involved with the sale of these FP Pilot Production vehicles?

Based on the information that I presently have it is my understanding that there were a total of 24,211 GT350/R's built over the 6-year production run.

Of that total number of units I understand that there were a total of 3,647 R models built at the FRAP and included all of the pre-production units built for the 6-year model run.

Having said that I am not aware of any 2015 GT350/R pre-production units being assembled at the FRAP which indicates that the 2016 PP cars were actually assembled ~2 months prior to the 137 examples built for the 2015 MY which obviously is very interesting.

Assuming that is indeed the case that then means that the earliest assembled GT350/R's were in fact 2016 models with "PP001" being the very first Pilot Production GT350R and was assembled on April 28th, 2015.

If that was the case "PP004" was assembled at the FRAP in May 2015 and suggest that your vehicle may be just the 4th GT350/R built of the 24,211 total units assembled over the 6-year model run.

The above information in unofficial but I feel confident that most of the above information may be correct.

When you get a chance please send me a PM as I other information about PP004 that I would like to share with you but not on a social media platform.

Congratulations once again on purchased an outstanding example of a very early GT350R Pilot Production vehicle.

PS: Have attached a picture of "PP001" and suggest that it was spec'd out pretty much exactly that same as PP004 with respect to color, Electronics Package, etc.

For the 2016 MY there were 95 GT350/R pre-production units built and only 71 pre-production units built for the next 3 MY's but don't have the 2020 PP numbers quite yet..
