I like to disassemble things.
I miss my own race red GT350 but live vicariously through this thread every time it rises to the top. Good stuff Jessie.

Looks great. I was thinking about buying the OPT-7 turn signals myself. Did you get the clear, diffused, or smoked version? I wonder how each option changes the color temperature difference with the headlight gills.
I got the smoked version. I like how they look a little more low key when the lights are off.

Thanks brother. I loved looking at all the pictures photos you'd post of it. Race Red just looks so damn beautiful.

Last month I took my yearly trip down to Southern California for the Fabulous Fords Forever show. I cruised down with the NorCal SVT Owners Association since they always host a huge cruise from the Bay Area down to SoCal and it's a hell of an experience cruising down nearly 400 miles with 100+ Mustangs. This year had a little lower attendance than the last few but it was still a great time. We took the scenic route and I broke off from the cruise when we got down to LA to make a pit stop at the Toretto's house from Fast and Furious. I've driven my car down 3 years in a row and never took the time to check this place out. It looked pretty run down to be honest, but I was happy to see it in person nonetheless. I spoke to a neighbor that came out while I was taking pictures and he said the previous owners got tired of people parking on the driveway to take pictures and doing burnouts and shit. After a movie like that, it's bound to attract idiots . Oh well, I got the pictures I've always wanted!

My next stop was all the way down in Oceanside, CA to see my brother. Both of us grew up loving and lusting after certain cars. Now that we're both graduated and have decent jobs, this is the first time we can honestly say that we're proud to own our dream cars. 3 years down and I still love my GT350 as much as I did on day 1 and I can't think of anything else I'd want right now. Even if I had the opportunity to trade mine for an R, I don't think I could part ways with my current one. It's my first brand new car and it's staying with me forever.

My brother is the proud owner of a pristine, original 1994 6-speed manual, Twin-Turbo Supra. He's been searching all over for a couple of years but his patience paid off and he finally found the perfect example for a great price. I think he found his "forever" car too.

Of course, we had to hit up a Cars & Coffee together to celebrate all the hard work to get to where we are.

And then a little beach shot in crappy, harsh lighting. Took a lot of Lightroom work to make this picture somewhat presentable.

The next day, I met up with a few Shelby's from Northern California and Southern California on the way to the Fabulous Fords show. We had 12 GT350s and a clean GT500.

full.jpg

Annnnnd here's one of the only pictures I took of my car at the show. The show was huge! Well over 1000 cars and this was the first year I didn't even get to see all of them. There was just too many and I was tired of walking around. It was a great show though. If any of you are on the West Coast, you should definitely come out to see it next year.

full.jpg

It was also my first time seeing a new GT500 in person. Ford had it on display in the beautiful Performance Blue. I love how the carbon fiber wheels actually show the weave. In my opinion, the GT350R should have came that way too. I'm glad Ford made the change on the GT and GT500 but I'm surprised they didn't do it to the 2020 GT350. Would have been cool to have all 3 cars matching.

The day after the show, I went to a track day at Willow Springs Raceway in Rosamond, CA. I'll post videos and pictures of that soon. All in all, over the entire 5 day trip, I went on my longest road trip to date with my car. 27 hours, nearly 1400 miles and an average of 15.5mpg. Not bad when you consider a track day was part of that average MPG figure. Total fuel cost was nearly $500 though

More Race Red sexiness. I just got my AUTOArt GT350R. I wish they had a black roof option but this is still good enough for me!

Don't forget about that coolant tank!

haha if it was cheaper to buy, I'd have gotten 2 and tried my hand at modifying one of them to look exactly like mine. I think I'll stick to Hot Wheels when it comes to that.

Wait.. what happened to Dom's garage!!!!!! :D
I was thinking the same thing! I wonder when it was removed. Or was the garage added in post production?

I'm loving them. I only tried them at Willow Springs Raceway so far and they held up amazingly well. I just realized I never wrote anything on here after that track day so I'll update this soon with my full experience but the short story is that they never felt greasy to me, they came up to temp quick, and were very predictable at the limit. Depending on how long these last, I think they might be my go-to replacement for a street/track tire.

Hey everyone! I finally went over 1000 miles today. 1000.5 miles to be exact and this car is more than I ever could have imagined...

First off I'd like to start with a little background. I've been a fan of Mustang's since the day I was born. My dad's first Mustang was a 1971 Mach 1 that he built up when he was in his 20's. He had to sell it when my mom was pregnant with me because it was too rough and it was their only car. They special ordered a brand new 25th Anniversary 1989 GT 5.0 which went on to be the car that I grew up in. They still have it to this day but growing up over the years we've acquired had a few other Mustangs. One of which is a 1965 Fastback that my dad and I are slowly building up.

picture.jpg

He also has a 1966 coupe with an inline 6 and a 3spd manual. It's a hell of a cruiser. My sister's first car was a 1992 GT 5.0 that she still has to this day. So when I turned 16, I was dead set on finding myself a clean Fox Body to continue the family tradition...

I did a complete 180 and came across a 1991 300ZX Twin-Turbo for a price that I couldn't pass up. Within a week of driving it, the thought of owning a Mustang was completely out of my mind. I absolutely loved the way it drove, the way it looked, just everything about it. Once I started going to college my Z started getting to the end of it's life pushing 180k miles. I needed a new DD but I will never get rid of my Z.

picture.jpg

picture.jpg

This is where I came back into the Mustang world. I found a great deal on a used 1995 Saleen Clone. It was mildly built up but nothing crazy. I'd be lucky if it was even pushing 300hp but it drove great, had less than 100k miles, and was available for a great price. It's just a GT at heart but it looks good, sounds good, and drives pretty damn nice.

picture.jpg

picture.jpg

picture.jpg

picture.jpg

Over my college years the DD miles on my '95 started to pile on and the lack of power was starting to show. I graduated college, got a decent paying job and my mind started thinking of what I should do...get my Z back on the road with a rebuilt motor/transmission? Coyote swap the '95? I started saving up money over the last few years and started planning BOTH. I researched and budgeted like crazy for a year. I saved up enough and was ready put it all down between both cars to get the parts I needed. Coyote swapped SN95 and a reliable 350hp Z32TT. The thing is, if I was going to be building 2 cars, I would need another DD right?

Enter my 1998 Escort ZX2, 115k miles, bought for less than $1000. Completely manual everything. Perfect.

Before I plopped down all of my saved up cash on parts for my builds, Ford revealed the GT350...Now, as nice as the S550 was, I never really wanted a new Mustang. UNTIL I saw the GT350. It was love at first sight and I knew I just had to have one. I put the other 2 projects on hold and focused on saving up as much as I could for a down payment and set my sights 100% on finding myself a brand new GT350. I started looking all over California for a dealership that would allow me to order one exactly how I wanted it. This is my first brand new purchase since starting my career and the first brand new car I ever bought. Also the first car I've ever spent more than $5000 on so I wasn't going to settle for a color or option I didn't want. I wanted it to be perfect. Nearly every dealership I called either already ordered a stock order with a Tech Pack or the wrong color Track Pack. Nearly a hundred calls/emails/waiting lists later I was about to give up until, with the help of my dad, we found a dealership close by with an order that wasn't pulled by Ford yet. They were willing to negotiate ADM and willing to let me take over the order and order it exactly to my specs. FINALLY! We settled at $8k ADM, which for the Bay Area wasn't too bad at the beginning of the year. I put down my deposit the weekend of my 28th birthday and the waiting game began.

It only took a couple of weeks before I got a VIN # so I started calling FP every 2 days checking for updates. I know I'm in the extreme minority here because I only had to wait a month and a half before my car arrived. I warned my supervisor and coworkers to let them know that as soon as I get the phone call about my car, I'm running straight out the door and taking the next 2 days off. The phone call finally came and I ran out the door like my building was on fire.

When I arrived at the dealership they had my car up on the lift for the pre delivery inspection. I informed them beforehand don't wash it, don't take any stickers/plastic off, don't install anything on it, and I want to be there for each step of the way. As soon as I saw it, I went speechless, my hands started shaking and my eyes started tearing up. I couldn't believe that beautiful car on the lift was actually mine. Even writing this out and thinking about that moment, it still doesn't seem real. This is how she looked the first time I saw her.

I never would have gotten this if it wasn't for my dad's help so of course he was with me when I picked it up!

As I was signing the papers they pulled it around to the front and handed me the keys...one of the best feelings of my life.

Okay, NOW to the first 1000 miles...

I'll get the boring part out of the way and just agree with everyone that the sound system isn't that great. I don't even care though because it's almost always turned off. That's that. I'm still surprised by the amount of technology in it even though I didn't get a tech pack. Bluetooth, backup camera, adjustable drive modes, traction control, stabililty control, hill start assist and I don't even need to put a key in the ignition? This was all pretty overwhelming for me as I never really experienced a "new" car. I'm stil getting used to it though and don't even use half of the stuff.

I'm a relatively taller dude but not too heavy and the Recaro seats fit me perfectly, nice and snug. Spirited driving through the bumpy roads around my house and I barely move an inch. Now how does it drive? Most of you already know. This thing is just plain amazing. Even after reading all of the stories posted here I couldn't prepare myself for how much fun this car is. I made a pretty damn big jump because the newest Mustang I've driven or even just sat inside before this Shelby was a 2005 automatic GT. The only real comparison I can make is with my SN95 which feels ancient in every way.

The sounds this thing make can't be compared to any other car out there. To be fair, I cut out my resonators less than a week after I got the car and it's the best modification I could ever have made. When the engine is cold, putt putting around town sounds so good I'm prefectly fine cruising around getting the temps up before really opening her up. All the pops and crackles while engine breaking put a smile on my face every single time. Once everything gets up to operating temps and you take it all the way through the rev range all hell breaks loose. The snaps and pops between shifts, the screaming wail as the RPMs climb never seem to end. And holy hell, if you do this in a tunnel or under an overpass, or even just next to a wall...chills and goosebumps every damn time. There isn't a single video out there that can prepare you for how brutal and raw it sounds in person.

Driving slowly around town is easier than I could have ever imagined. As long as you keep the revs below 3500 it's as docile as my Escort. Smooth, refined, easy. Anything above that and it's an entirely different animal. It's way too easy to get in trouble with the law because before you know it, you're pushing 3 digit speeds in 3rd gear and the adrenaline keeps urging you to push it even more. This car BEGS for a track day. There is no way you can even come close to the limits safely on the streets.

As my car sits, she's showing exactly 1000.5 miles waiting for her first oil change and I have yet to try many of the Track Apps. No Launch Control, no acceleration test, no brakeing tests. That will all come after I change my oil. I'm waiting for my dealership to order a filter since they didn't have one in stock. The only mods I've done are the resonator delete, Steeda clutch spring, and FP oil separators. I have JLT coil covers on order as well as an R steering wheel. This year, I have plans for the Diode Dynamics 4th brake light, JPM alcantara interior pieces, a different coolant expansion tank. Next year I plan to add R calipers and a set of R spec N4S Project6G wheels.

I've always wanted to take my car to a track but never had t he proper opportunity. By the time I had enough funds, the Z started having too many problems. The Saleen is a convertible so I'd need to install a cage before that would ever be allowed. My first experience will be the Track Attack in Utah. I'm signed up for June and I already know that I'll get instantly addicted. I can't wait!

All in all, the GT350 is more than I ever imagined it. It is THE most exciting car I've been around and I can't even fathom the thought of ever selling it. This is the first car I've ever bought brand new and it will stay with me until the day I die.

To end, I absolutely love my Shelby. I'll leave you with a few pictures:

I like putting all of my track day adventures here, because it's fun to go back and look at my journey with the car through the past few years. I realized I still haven't written about my last track day after the Fabulous Fords Forever show!

So back in April, after the Fab Fords show, I went to a track day hosted by Signature Wheel, Griggs Racing, and the Ford Performance Racing School. Thanks again to @50 Deep for working to get this set up. This was his 3rd track day and as always, it was an absolute blast. Great people, great cars, low key but still professional, and the best part is that none of the attendees had any egos. Everyone is always so friendly at T's events and it almost feels like a little "track family" now because we see a lot of the same folks at these events.

It was my first time ever going to Willow Springs Raceway down in Rosamond, CA. I've driven here plenty of times on video games so I knew my way around the turns and knew this was a high speed track, but just like my experiences as Sonoma and Laguna Seca, nothing prepares you for the feeling of being out on the real track. This track is fucking scary! It's incredibly high speed and crazy bumpy. Going into Turn 8 with your foot to the floor at over 130MPH is an adrenaline rush like no other. It proved to myself how much I truly trust this car. I felt like I should back off and lift just a little but I could still feel that the car wasn't getting out of hand and even though it was bouncing and skipping along the turn, it still felt planted at the end of the day. I don't think I've ever felt that feeling on any other track so far.

full.jpg

I came to the track on a brand new set of Bridgestone RE-71R's sized in 305/30/19 at all four corners. They only had about 600 street miles mainly on the highway. WSIR is such a high speed track with long right-handed sweepers that it just kills the outside tires. Here's how my driver's front looked at the end of the day. This is after roughly seven 20-minute sessions.

full.jpg

I aimed to get my tire pressures at around 34 PSI hot. It took a few runs to get there and after my first session, I realized I needed to drop the left tires to nearly 5 PSI lower than the right side to even things out. Cold pressures were around 23 PSI and my tire pressure light would be on at the beginning of each session before the tires came up to temp. Looking at the picture above, it looks like I still need more camber. I'm at -2.7 Front, -2.1 Rear but it doesn't look like enough for high speed tracks. Since this was my first time on the RE-71R, I was curious to see if they would get greasy if they got too hot, especially on a track like this but I honestly didn't feel anything like it. They felt great all day long and never felt like they were losing grip. I was insanely impressed by these tires. If they last more than 4 track days, they might be my new favorite. I might have to re-mount them on the opposite side though since you can't rotate left-right with these things. I got spoiled by the Cup 2s which you can rotate any which way without needing to re-mount. I didn't realize that fact until after I bought them.

Usually, my main track numbers are 002 but I forgot them at home in my rush to get out of the house...luckily my friend @icormba brought his spare numbers from his old car and let me use them so I didn't have to use the blue tape. I love the little modification he made with my name and the Fiji Islands flag. Thanks brotha! :fistbump:

full.jpg

full.jpg

The final session of the day was probably the most fun of all because most of the people had left and they decided to let all the remaining people run on track for almost an entire hour! I think it might have actually been more than 1 hour of straight track time but I don't remember. I don't know anyone that actually stayed out that long. I tapped out after about 35 minutes. It still felt nice not having to worry about when the session was ending. It's a nice feeling coming off the track not because you were told, but because you were just done. Felt like a perfect way to end the day.

full.jpg

full.jpg

My goal for the day was to get into the 1:30 second range. Even though I came up a little short, I was still happy to see what I was able to do for my first time at that particular track and first time on those tires. I ended up with a best of 1:31.379 on my 3rd session of the day. Unfortunately, my GoPros got messed up and I didn't get anything in my first 3 sessions recorded. My best recorded lap was a 1:31.529 so it was close! Here's that one. Check out how bumpy this damn place is! And this is after it got recently repaved.

My external mic wasn't working and neither was my rear-view camera. The car count was so low that the rear cam was boring all day long anyways. The best lap I recorded that all of my equipment was actually working for was a 1:33.049. Much slower but at least it sounds awesome :sunglasses:. After looking at the data and the videos, I can confidently say that I'll be able to drop into the 1:30 range without doing anything to my car. There's so much time left at this track that I barely scratched the surface. Don't know when I'll make the trip all the way back down there but I'd love to be back one of these days. It's a pretty boring 5 hour drive so who knows when that'll be.

Man!!! All I can say is WOW! Awesome footage!!!!

Thanks man. I need to make my setup less complicated because I don't think I've had a full track day where everything worked during every session. 3 cameras, 2 phones, an external GPS, external mic, fitbit, and the OBDII reader. Synching everything up when I get back home is another few hours of fun
