Looking to get into first mustang
Still waiting for my GT350, but has anyone have any suggestions for a radar detector? I've seen some hard wired in different cars and may want one that can be hard wired. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I've got a K40 RL360i in mine. Great unit. Totally stealth. Laser and radar front and rear.

There is so much info out there. I PERSONALLY believe instead of going with just the most expensive radar detector, it is best to get a really good laser defense system first, and a mediocre-very good radar detector second.

When it comes to laser defense, there are actually only a few systems that actually work, and they have to pretty much be the most recent model:
AL Priority
Blinder
Escort
Laser Interceptor

All others are pretty much a sham: K40, Rocky Mountain, (any old systems are outdated a defenseless)

As far as radar detectors go, the base Escort, Beltronics, and even Uniden models work really well.

V1 is annoying because it goes off at everything.
I like the ones with lockout & GPS alers that remember locations of false alarms, and also can alert you to red light cameras.

Just my 2c

Yup, I concur. If your state allows it then laser must be your first priority.

I have a question, is there a state that doesn't allow laser items? I know that Radar detection is illegal in a few states, and Radar jamming is illegal, period, but Radar is regulated by the FCC, since it is a RF transmission, Laser is not, since it's frequency is no longer in the RF range but in the light range, but I do know that states also make their own laws, so this is why I am curious to find out which states have laws against laser.

For the OP, I have always been an Escort\Beltronics user, and think that the 9500ix is in the top three detectors, and for some maybe the best. The Max 360 unit, I think is also in the top three, my only problem with the Max 360 or Passport Max is the newly designed mounting system, while I am sure this system works for most drivers, it is not the tried and true mount of the previous systems from the 9500ix and back. It is plenty sturdy for normal driving, but I drive around 130,000 miles or so a year, and I have had 4 or 5 mount failures with the newer design and not a single failure with the older one, but again this design most likely stands up to normal driving.

I have 4- 9500ix's and 2- Max's, and they are definitely two of the best, and once again for some people they may be the two best. Now, in my GT350 I actually have a hardwired stealth system (both of the afore mentioned detectors can be hardwired) but it may not be for everyone, if depending on a detector is important and how much you want to spend on one is not the issue but the best available is, then I would install one of THESE systems. Now before you click on the link, know in advance that this is a system that is installed on the vehicle and is in no way, shape or form cheap, and this is the reason I now only have one of these and let the other one go with the car it was on. Point being, this is usually for high end cars only, and can run 6 to 8 thousand plus, depending on what set up you prefer or decide on and the other mentioned detectors are more than adequate for most.

Sorry for the long reply, but one of the three mentioned will take care of your radar/laser needs.

You need to do some research on what is being used in your area before spending your money. I live in South Eastern Mass and there is almost no laser being used the state police use it occasionally on the highway but it's been years since I have seen local police with laser. The few cops I know don't like laser because they have to work harder to use it, requires being aimed. They tell me they can write tickets all day with radar. Also there is virtually no X band radar being used so a unit that let's you shut it off is a big plus.

I have used the Escort 9500 on my motorcycle and DD since they came out. I recently installed an Escort Redline in the GT350 and I think it is a better unit for the metro area. I was cautioned about the lack of X band filters for the crash avoidance systems on the newer cars, but it has not been an issue in the least. There are some very nicely done independent comparisons on radar/laser detectors on the net that test the real world applications. It is a good place to check on a unit that you may be considering.

It's my understanding that many of the newer laser guns can not be fooled with laser jammers.

https://www.rdforum.org/forum.php has a lot of good info on radar detectors also look up Vortex radar on you tube he has tested a lot of equipment.

I had a Max 360 and it was just too big for my taste. I ended up with a V1 and used yaV1 with an android phone for custom sweeps and GPS lockouts for a while until V1driver came out for the Iphone it does a great job of GPS lockouts making my V1 very quite now.

Radenso Pro SE is the best one outside of the Stinger. That is what I have, and it has been really good. The Escort Redline is also one of the best.
