I just removed the resonators from my exhaust. Do R's have the heat shields or are they just for the resonators. I believe those heat shields were for the resonators. Can someone with an R confirm?

Thanks
Jack

I like to disassemble things.
In other words, yes, R models still have heat shields even though they have no resonators.

I feel the same way, usually. It's this damn pixie dust going around lately though that sometimes necessitates a whack-a-mole type response (no offense to you op). And because if the pictures go down you have nothing.

Thanks for the answer. That is why I love this board. I will put the heat shield back on the car.

Tomster good luck with the new car. I am sure you will love your R.

Wonder how important are those heat shields as for us non R owners and with different xpipes installed (mine is Corsa) have no real way of installing the heat shields back without cutting them to match the new xpipe...which may be more of a hassle...

The heat shield should fit back onto the Corsa X pipe but it needs to be welded back on assuming that your popped of your tabs with with the shield rather than the pipe...which I may or may not have done.

With the Borla Atack I didn't even bother putting them back on. It seems to not make a difference temperature wise during normal commuting. I could see it raising temps significantly during tracking but I am too focused at the time to notice an increase.

The shields can be challenging with respect to welding. The alloy used simply melts and it isn't about heat setting or travel speed. Just like the factory did, you have to weld over them, ala a plug, as opposed to fusing them with a stitch bead.
