I need to remove the steering wheel airbag as I'm swapping out the steering wheel bezels, do I really need to disconnect the battery to do this?? I don't even need to unplug the airbag I just need it out of the way as I switch out each bezel.

Because of the explosive inflator, it's highly recommended to make sure there is no power to the airbag, not to mention it prevents any unintentional and annoying horn sounding.

And yeah wait a good 20min or so for any residual charges to dissipate before you pull the plugs on the airbag. Wouldn't be good for it to go off in your face due to a remaining charge.
