Really Man, “We would all be Dead“ without Catalytic Converters, what Propaganda. Do you have any Idea of what goes into Catalytic Converter’s and what it takes to make them. Talk about Pollution. And don’t get me started on the Recycling Lies. What comes out of a Vehicles Tail pipe Is only a part of a Vehicles Total Impact on our Environment.
Yup

So here's a question - might seem silly to some of you, but I'm going to ask it anyway because I'm here to learn.

One of my other vehicles is a Flex-Fuel vehicle, so I'm familiar with what E85 (Flex-Fuel) is.

My question is, why do I read about guys setting their Mustangs up to use E85?

Is it just because it's a cheaper fuel?

Or is there some other, performance based reasoning, that I'm just not familiar with?

Serious question, for those that may be laughing right now.

E85 is equivalent to 105 octane and also provided lower temps. The combination of these benefits hekp reduce chance of preignition/detonation allowing tune to command more ignition timing and thus more power.

Some cons of running e85 is that it can be a bit of a hassle to keep testing the ethanol % of pump e85 and adjusting the tune for the correct stoich. You also reduce your gas mileage by approximately 33%.

I personally run the PCMTEC canbus flex fuel system that does all of the adjusting automatically and accurately as it receives input from an inline ethanol/flex fuel sensor mounted prior to the fuel rail.

OEM flexfuel logic is based off of inferred/learned values post combustion event. PCMTEC is a bit pricey, but the convenience is second to none.

@stang17

You taught me quite a bit with this post & I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to explain it to me.

Thank you.

Watching the video now.

Great information, thanks again.

The PCMtec canbus system is very well thought out and works great.

The Ford flex logic works just as well if properly turned on. Some tuners will do this. On gen 3 it does need PCMtec software, HPtuners and SCT do not offer all parameters that need to be changed. This is why many tuners say it is not possible.

I have tried to fool Fords gen 2 flex logic into locking onto a false reading and I have not been successful. I no longer worry and just fill with whatever fuel I want that day.

I believe @engineermike has torture tested the gen 3 with the same results

I was serious in my earlier post. If in CA or wherever, if you run no cats get a e85 tune. No one will be able to use smell as a way to detect no cats.

They may want you to take a sobriety test however.

Yea we did some stuff with the gen3 that you shouldn’t do and it worked shockingly well. The flex logic from ford is better than most give it credit for. As mentioned, most tuners don’t have access to all the needed parameters to make it work, so they just say “don’t do it”.

In a recent interview of Greg Banish, the interviewer said “everyone knows you can’t do flex fuel with a supercharged coyote” and Greg says, “sure you can, there are plenty driving around.” He then goes on to explain more about how it works. I learned something new as well.

I loved the smell of Blendzoil/100 octane leaded from my 73 SC 500 Yamaha MX back in the day with the 10% nitro mixed in the Blendzoil or my 77KZ1000 ex drag bike with 100 octane leaded race gas and open header now. 😂

Why wouldnt it? You get the mixture ratios right and boom, it works. Lots of information on what ratios work with the various alcohol blends. Just have to know how to apply them via tuning.

I wasn't aware that there were two stroke lawn mowers made. I bet that sounds cool out mowing the yard.

My SC 500 used a 15- 1 oil/gas mix ratio but had a single ring piston and CDI ignition so no worry of fouling plug.

I've had my commercial Lawn Boy mower since 1988. still starts on the first pull. Maintenance is sharpening the blade, clean out the exhaust ports once and awhile, clean the oil bath filter and change the plug. With the new synthetic oils it doesnt smoke and the plugs stay clean.

He said he was going to put them back on so how would they know? Yes, everything SMOG related has to stay the way it is. All the way down to oil separators. California would rather you burn the oil and send it back into the atmosphere than capturing it and removing it from the equation.

Yes, they are that stupid.
Regarding the separators
Reasoning is that people would never drain them
The gt500 that has a drain line to the valve cover is “legal”
