Just a PSA, when I was changing my oil this past week I was doing a once over and noticed my snorkel to the JLT intake was pushed in. Apparently I was a :headbonk: and did not ensure it was pushed all the way forward till the stubbed point was on the outside of the box to keep it in place. The snorkel was pushed back about halfway into the box. After re-positioning the results were pretty dramatic:
Before IATs observation:
Idle: 20-40* above ambient
Low Speed (20mph and lower): 10-20* above ambient
Above 20mph: 7* pretty consistently above ambient
After snorkel re-positioning IATs:
Idle: No change
Low Speed (20mph and lower): 10* above ambient
Above 20mph: 3-4* above ambient
I do have the holes drilled out on the inlet side of the grill only and did notice that the snorkel part extends all the way to the inlet portion of the grill. So moral of the story, routinely check underhood (I check the oil every other fill up but never gave anything else much of a look... doh) and check the inlet pipe if you own a JLT. I can't speak for other CAI's but if they have them as well, check them!
