Greetings,

I have a 2022 Mustang GT Premium with a manual transmission. It has 1500 miles on it, and other then a FRP Track suspension upgrade, IRS wheel hop stuff, X-pipe delete, and removing the Carbon filter, my car is stock. I will not be doing any engine mods in the foreseeable future, so with that being said, what are the Pro's and Con's of removing my sound tube? I understand a lot of Mustang owners do this.

Please advise,
Thanks....................

That is up to you sir depend on if you like hearing the engine sounds at the current volume. When i had the supercharger installed the whine was incredible sounding. I then did headers and pulleyed down and the shop removed the sound tube. No more supercharger whine. I personally didn't like not having the engine noises, ended up putting in a fosters sound tube and I am happy again. That's my story.

Its always been something I wanted. That 03-04 Cobra whine was addicting. If I end up supercharging I am doing that whine mod no doubt :like:

Pros- less crap in your engine bay
Cons- taking the time to remove it.

Pros: cleaner engine bay, easier to get to the dipstick

Cons: none really. Easy to remove, takes 2 minutes maybe. The firewall plug is a bit of a pain just because of where the hole is. But other than that, piece of cake

As far as the cabin sound, I didn’t notice a big difference when I first did it. But I keep my exhaust in Track mode most of the time so that’s all I really hear in the cabin anyway.

If you’re not sure about removing it here’s what I did before finally removing my sound tube. I bought the plug kit and I disconnected the sound tube at the air intake, plugged the hole and left the sound tube in place to see if I liked the results instead of just removing it. After a couple days and not noticing any significant difference I removed the it.

I pulled mine to have better access to the dip stick. You can buy a kit on line or just the plugs at a hardware store. The plug on the firewall is a little hard to get to. To prevent dropping the plug behind the engine, just put a piece of tape about a foot long on the plug and tape the other end to the firewall. Once the plug is seated you can remove the tape. As for the sound, I really couldn’t tell any difference. No cons at all.

Don't bother trying to loosen the nut on the firewall, just yank it out, will save you a lot of time and hassle for nothing. Pick up a plug from advanced auto and slap it in and enjoy the cleaner looking engine bay.

Not trying to hijack the thread but I'm curious. Having an EB Ford gives us fake noise differently so I looked up a sound tube. It's quite complicated looking, not a simple tube as I expected. It also looks like it leaves the intake after the MAS. How does it not show as unmetered air? Is it baffled?
Personally I'd rather have a sound tube, it's a lot easier to disable than on the EB...

That would be great! Your opinion on the sound would be appreciated too. Thanks.......

It has a membrane in it like a stethoscope.
