I don’t remember any focus on original Shelby’s that are on the low mileage—the Competition models or the forerunner to our GT350R were hard driven and had many miles, what mattered is was it taken care of, or was it restored correctly, or in the case of the first 37, it was their improbable to history that mattered.

I think that right now we are seeing the low mileage versions flood the market, but down the road—many will have miles and the focus will be on was the car taken care of. Does it have original paint, been in any accidents, etc..

A Ford GT is still a Ford GT no matter if it has a 20 miles or if it has 20,000. Our cars, are still a GT350R and if it’s taken care of, down the road I would expect it to still do good when this rush of almost zero mile cars is over.

I was at a show a week ago and there was a guy who had a 2000 Cobra R. The owner with his chest pumped out could cite the exact mileage of the car: 25.4 miles. He had owned the car for over two decades. When I heard that I didn’t say “cool“, I thought what a waste—two decades of ownership and he has no idea the spirit or the essence of the car.

If a car is at its most value when it is on a dealers showroom then we need to start a business where you pay a maintenance fee but never truly own the car. It stays in dealers hands and the car keeps that showroom zeal. I’ve read articles that debate the prevalent buyers market that only values low mileage cars like they are paintings that instead being made of oil, drip oil, and that it is destroying the car community. Cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed.

I guess I should restate that. I'm agreeing with you. It's a shame to not drive them - so what I was saying is that I'd either start driving more or sell it now.. I'm not letting it sit, that's for sure. I was also saying that there ARE plenty of people who will, with these cars, allow them to stagnate with the hopes they will appreciate..I don't think those will appreciate enough to warrant not enjoying them but they will end up driving the prices of the ones that are drivers down a bit.

That’s a car collector, not an enthusiast. I would have asked him what it was like to drive it.
So just to be clear are you suggesting that a car collector cannot be an automotive enthusiast as well and that an automotive enthusiast cannot also be a car collector?

If someone has a car that they never drive I dont consider them an enthusiast, they don't experience or feel the car. they are a collector the way people collect art. they put it somewhere to show off to people and hope it goes up in value. Enthusiasts can collect cars but they drive them to some degree. They clean, maintain, and repair them. Jay Leno is a perfect example. He has an impressive and expensive collection but he drives and works on them on a regular basis.

I think that your reference to Jay Leno is a perfect example of someone who is an enthusiast first and foremost but is also a collector and preserver of cool automobiles and automobilia and certainly a hero of mine.:like::like:

Having said that and unless you personally know the individual in question who has the 25.4 mile Cobra R, I suggest that this person may have other cool HP automobiles which he drives on a regular basis therefore he may be an enthusiast just as you and I but chooses to not drive his Cobra R but instead to preserve it for future generations and reference when it comes to accurate restorations as this vehicle is already 21 years old.

Like you I don't know the individual in question and who knows maybe he has a great deal of seat time in another Cobra R which would certainly qualify him as an ethusiast.

In my case I have preserved some cool cars over the last 50+ years but have also driven most of them a great deal and hope that the individual in question has experienced the driving excitement and experience of another 2000 Cobra R and is preserving the 25.4 mile example for future generations to view and reference.

Bottom line and as Brett suggested earlier these cool HP Mustangs are meant to be driven and experienced as much as possible!!

 🙏

Great recap/compilation. Thanks. Unbelievable to see the prices on these in just one year. I bought my 20 350 (non R) for 4K under sticker in May last year. Will be interesting to see what the depreciation rate looks like once inventories get back to normal.

The 350 and 350R - even though every reviewer echoed what an incredible car and bargain these were, only after they went out of production, are people REALLY paying for and scrambling to get them. Seems like it took a little bit to sink in for the general car public but there really isn't another car like these.

Well said and to add to your comments even after the GT350R won by a runaway vote as the 2016 Road & Track PCOTY and many subsequent years of automotive adulation along with a multitude of enthusiasts such as you and I speaking the virtues of the GT350R during the 6 production years this incredible and unique vehicle is finally now starting to sink in with the a great deal of automotive enthusiasts just how outstanding and very unique that these 2 seat GT350R's are.

Outside the box thinking which resulted with production of a large displacement FPC engine along with CF wheels, wing and rear seat delete coming as OEM were a first for the automotive industry and it was the FMC that launched this outstanding combination.

For those of us that bought our R models early on or even within the last few years or so at MSRP (or even close to that price point) I would suggest that we have to be very thankful and appreciative that we were able to secure these incredible and unique Pony Cars at such a reasonable price compared to what is taking place over the recent months.

Going forward no one really knows where future pricing will be for the GT350R but if I was a betting man I would suggest that the values and pricing of our R models will not be declining anytime soon.

I’m in-between cars
Do you know the funny thing is that most of us didn’t get an opportunity to test drive our cars before we bought it. Most places wouldn’t even let you test drive an R. I bought my car without ever having seen it in person, but it over delivered in joy of driving—it exceeded all expectations, and is one of the best cars that I’ve ever driven—it’s that good. Now that it’s gone (discontinued), I can see why people are paying a premium for this icon.

I did the same for my non-R 350. I flew in and the dealership picked me up at the airport. I inspected the car and then drove it 500 miles home. I really wanted to get an R, but I am very happy with my 350 as it is. I love having it in my garage and on the track.

I just turned 43 so I grew up on SN95s. I had a built Vortech 96 Cobra back in the day and never had the desire to get back into another mustang. The last generation I liked were the 03-04 Cobras and I never cared for the Shelby's from 07-14. Then the GT350 came out and it got me. Never drove or ridden in an s550, let alone an s197, but placed an order for an R last February. At first I was like, do I really want another mustang at 40 years old? Ha! When I went to pick up the car at the dealer and saw it for the first time, I felt like I made the right decision. When I actually drove it for the first time, I knew the car was on another level.

I was 50 when I picked up this Mustang. My last one was MY90. After that I drove alot of cars. '96 TA Ram Air, '04 SRT then I went more into pleasure driving like Lexus and such but then the Gen6 came out and that was it. Had to have this car and this color.
