Hi - I purchased by Bullitt new in 2019 and I have 25000 miles on the car. I'm experiencing premature wear of my tires, and I am wondering if anyone else is having this problem. I replaced by front tires with the same Pilot sports at 18,000 miles because one had a slow leak. The tire shop performed an alignment and rebalancing because they noticed abnormal wear. Now, at 25000 miles, the dealership says I need to replace my front tires again due to abnormal wear. What might be causing tires to wear out in only 7000 miles? They also said I need to replace both sets of rotors. Is this normal? I'm going to replace my front break pads for the first time and it seems strange that the rotors wore out in the same amount of time.

Don’t believe everything a dealership tells you, I’ve seen them recommend brake pad replacement at less than 50% worn, find a good independent

Yeah I’m skeptical of the rotors needing replacement too.

any issues with the tires will show up in a picture, so go get us one.

What might be causing tires to wear out in only 7000 miles?
If the first shop that performed the alignment did a bad job at it I could definitely see tires needing to be replaced that soon. But without pictures and/or specs of the alignment it's tough to tell.

Also rotors can easily be measured to see if they truly need replacing.

Thanks, everyone. It seems from your comments that this is not a typical issue. I’m going to head to a few tire shops (including the one that replaced the front tires) to try and figure out what’s going on and I’ll post again next week.

at 25000 miles, the dealership says I need to replace my front tires again due to abnormal wear.
Several years ago, with a Lexus, at the dealership for a routine 15,000 mile service, the service manager came out and told me I needed new tires. I took a look visually and said I'm not prepared to spend $1,200 at this point for new tires. When I got home I took out my old tire depth tread measurement tool. All tires showed 6 or 7/32 of an inch which is only half way worn down. Up to 2/32 of an inch is legal. Since that experience, when getting routine covered maintenance, I keep the tread measurement tool in my glove box and if it happens again would like to look into the faces of the mechanic or service manager telling me I need new tires when it is a complete lie.

On a related note, The Independent Garage I now use for servicing my Mustang, told me that air filter on my 2020 bullet was just fine although I had asked them to check it because it looked dirty. This service manager then said the mechanics get paid for any work they find is necessary so if we tell you it is not necessary it is not. This is the difference between an honest Workshop and one that is not.

I have a friend who owns a repair shop in Whittier, and it's a friendly place where they don't mind me hanging out in the garage. The mechanic and I spent a lot of time looking at the tires, breaks, and rotors. Long story short, the front tires are fine. There is a little wear on the outside (Toe Wear from user Key Lime's post), but nothing to suggest the tires need to be replaced. This is a case where the dealership tried to get me to buy something I didn't need. However, the dealership was correct about BOTH back rotors which are seriously grooved (see pic). It looks like metal on metal, yet the brake pads are fine! My best theory is that a valet drove the car around the parking lot with the emergency break engaged. The kiddos can't drive a stick.

So, I need front break pads and rear rotors. I'm a bit shocked that the dealership parts charges $275 for front break pads. People seem to like the Powerstop Z26 which are under $100. Can I pair these with my stock rotors? Should I buy the Powerstop Rotors for the back? Please provide links because I'm not very good at this.

What are the deceleration values of the rear axle on the brake tester?
The poor contact pattern at the rear is kind of normal.

It's normal to have grooved rear rotors from all the road grit that gets thrown up from front end, especially if you drive in winter or over dirt roads like I do.

Does not affect street performance at all.

It's it's a street car get organic pads. I have 45K miles on my fronts with lots of aggressive city braking and they look like have another 30k miles on them.
