So I've been informed (through Ford) that 2021 gen 3 5.0l has a piston skirt redesign from its preceeding model years to reduce the diesel type knock "some have".
Has any member seen a 2021 engine apart? Got pics of either 18-20 pistons vs 2021 to be posted? Any insight would be appreciated.

It’s a little early to have a 2021 apart so if anyone does have that piston they probably are not happy

Curious as to why you were informed by Ford... to a piston skirt redesign?

Looking for an answer to why the Tsb 20-2023 isn't being extented into 2021 as it was for 2020.

It's a truck motor.

I am curious why everyone expects a refined engine from a $40K car?

Should have got Ecoboost! Haha just joking.
Refined no, this is beyond that, besides when it's up to temp the engine is capable of running harmoniously. It's actually music to my ears....

So is this to fix the tick or the 2k rattle? I think that TSB was for the tick which Coyotes have had for 10 years.....

It's a truck motor.
Just because they also use a version of it in a truck does not make it a truck motor.

The coyote was designed first and foremost around the Mustang with the high rev peaky power. They adapted that design to try and make it work in a truck, but it was never designed for the truck as the main powerplant.

Now the new 6.8 OHV engine...yes that's a true truck design first and foremost that may or may not end up in the Mustang.

That's probably a question that should be directed to Ford, they are the ones that chose to excluded 2021 models from that TSB, not us. Here is the main customer support hot line: 1 (800) 392-3673

95% of the coyote motors are in trucks. All mustang V8 should have voodoo. It makes sense we always took truck short blocks for our cars. Cheap and plentiful.
I agree with that...but I think the GT350 guys would freak out. Plus, that engine is 30k+...I doubt it would be used in all GTs. Now, I really wish it was a damn option...or in the MACH 1. I may have waited for a deal on one instead of jumping on my GT.
