Been watching a few old westerns on TV lately and really like that cowboy look.
I was watching "Shane" and it got to me.
Does anybody have the same affection of the holstered wheel gun?
Love the pearl handled long barreled 45 long Colt in dolled up leather.
Any good links.. Think I'm in the market

Most of those are single action revolvers. So modern versions slower to load (most don't have swing out cylinders, but load through a loading gate) but, especially if a trigger job is done, the single actions can be very, very accurate.

Wheel guns are always fun to play with (obviously in a safe manner) but not for serious defense work, too slow to load, poor choices of bullets. The ruger sixguns add a little safety and a modern touch (ie you can carry with six loaded) while still keeping the nostalgic feeling. Adding a lever action pistol caliber carbine into the mix can be a blast too. Check out uberti guns, nostalgic, shooters and not as expensive as an original Colt.

There is no doubt that if you look at more rounds downrange faster, almost every shooter will do better with a semi-auto. And I think they are easier for CC as well. But I have a revolver that holds 8 (S&W .357 Performance Center). I'm not sure about your comment about poor choices for bullets--while the exotic fragmenting bullets aren't available, there are a fair number of .357 defensive loads. And then of course there is an argument that in almost all defensive situations no more than 5 shots are typically fired (though if you were in outlier situation I get that it would suck to run dry--the round count is from one of Massad Ayoob's books). However, revolvers do have other defensive advantages--they are simpler for most to understand, they don't jam, and you can't limp wrist them and cause cycling issues.

I was referring to single action wheelguns that that the OP was talking about. My carry gun of choice is a smith 642.

Whoops, sorry. Loading a single action is super slow. Mine is a Ruger LCR in .327 Fed Mag. How's that for an off the wall choice?

Single action revolvers are fun to shoot and I also enjoy and appreciate their appearance.

I've got a Ruger Single-Six convertible (.22/.22 WMR) that's just perfect for first time shooters. A Colt Single Action Army in .45 Colt that's for my son when he graduates college. And a Uberti blackpowder revolver that's just a blast (ha, ha) to load and shoot!

Though they have been mentioned, I would strongly suggest you check out Ruger's offerings (ruger.com). They have a large assortment of single action pistols with very modern safety features. Most are available either in stainless or blued finishes, and with some choices in barrel length. Since you mentioned the 45 long Colt, they do have a convertible model that includes a cylinder for that round, and another cylinder for .45 ACP. I have a convertible .357 that also shoots 9mm, and it more than just novelty--it shoots 9 quite well.

This one comes with pearl look handles: https://ruger.com/products/newModelBlackhawkConvertible/specSheets/5240.html

Let us know if you pick up anything, the only one I have left (purged the gunroom a couple years ago) is a Ruger single six in 32 H&R magnum. Very fun to shoot and handle, it is like the one in the pic I pilfered off the net. Have a crossdraw "Doc Holliday" rig for it too. Draws just like the scene when Val Kilmer drops Johnney RIngo.

Just got my wheels turning, looks like Henry makes a carbine that will chamber 32 H&R mag, have to think about that.
