Mine sounds just like yours, 2021, Roush installed at 2,000 miles. I've got 24K miles on mine now and I popped code P0430 about 1.5 months ago. It was on for just (1) drive and hasn't been back on since. I only drive it to work once a week and got with Roush for the friendly dealer closest to work so next drive to work it comes back, I am heading straight to that dealer. I am a ticking time bomb now.

The cat honeycomb in a stock mustang is ridiculously thin presumably to maximize the cells and surface area while minimizing flow restriction. The GT500 cats have ~ 1/2 the cell count and the honeycomb "tendons" are about twice the thickness. I've also wondered if stock hellcat cats can work. The redeye is making some serious power and I'm assuming their cats hold up better than a stock mustang with a supercharger.

Yep, stock cats self delete pretty quick with boost

Hey, thanks for reply and sharing. It was a bad cat, they replaced it yesterday. Spent all day at dealer, but fixed. Drivers side cat* DONE!!!!
It's your cat, like all these guys said.. sadly, I guess thats how it starts, w sporadic p0430 code and CEL on and off crap then eventually stays on. My CEL came on again while tech went for test drive and stood on.

So at least the don't take out the engine with them, unlike aftermarket stuff? Or do they still get clogged?
Lots of Roush cars have failed cats and they rarely ever lose motors. However, that's with the Roush tune. I've failed 3 and my friends have probably failed 3 more and none of our engines failed...knock on wood. However, I won't go as far as to say it can't happen. Certainly, safe tuning helps. What could happen is the chunks and bits from the first brick can plug the entrance to the second one. However, over time the bits disintegrate and pass through.

Thanks Mike, that is good to know. So in theory, if you keep driving with such failed cat, it will just completely deplete over time and car would become catless, right? When my cat failed, my dealer told me that I can just keep driving it until the new one arrives.

I don’t think all the brick will exit. In fact, the second brick might stay around for a long time. I think it’s ok to drive with a failed cat, but I wouldn’t flog it.

I went through 5 cats on my 19 Roush Stage 3 in 16,000 miles before I got rid of it. I strongly believe it’s more Roush tune related. If I kept the car I was ditching the Roush tune.

The Roush tune is safer on cats than all the others I’ve seen….not that they’re any good either.

When you clog the cats with boost from them breaking apart, thats when you break ring lands on pistons. Always delete the cats with boost on these cars.

When I was going through the cat saga with Roush they told me a lot of times the P0420/P0430 codes are tune related and not necessarily a cat failure that they were working on a fix. Roush would opt to replace the cats knowing there is a good chance the cats were fine. Never had issues with the Roush 2300 but sheesh the 2650 as it turns out was a big mistake.

I actually think there is still bits stuck on the muffler and rattling around inside. I hear tin like noises.. How do i get them out??
Thanks Anthony
