Went from a tech 16 to a 19 R biggest noticeable difference was the attention. the mode selection was rearranged. I do like the softer touch on the center console ect. I worried that me being 5'11" 190lbs was going to be an issue with the recaros I find them super comfortable my brothers are about 100lbs heavier and thay both said the lazyboys in the 16 were better. I had a 20 GT350 on order and found the 19R for just a bit more 60 mi up the road so it was a no brainer

I think most non R owners wonder how much the driving upgrade would be going to an R

There are reasons I went standard (fat boy a/c seats, better deal, rear seats...but more to fold flat for space then actually having the seat, less front air splitter curb hits) but let's face it, anyone that bought a GT350 did it for the thrill so who wouldn't want more of that?

My question is the 19/20 MY are supposed to get a lot closer to the R, a lot of the performance times obtained seems to bring them rather close. Gurney "swing" has more downforce then the R wing, but I love the R wing.... a lot

Most of these trade up are pre 19 cars to get an R. Anyone trade up to an R with a 19 or 20 base GT350, and had it long enough to compare/contrast a 2019 or 2020 base to R?
I think there was a significant gap between the pre-19 GT350 and the R, but the updates the 19+ models have reduced this gap significantly. Throw on the R compound Cup 2s and see where you would be then.

I've definitely had talks here and there the last 3 years but in the end I Just couldn't justify the increase in cost (because there is an increase over a regular 350) without that much of an increase in performance.

The exclusivity is intriguing but I do not want to fall deeper into the 'collector paranoia' re: driving it , storing it , adding miles, etc

If I'm going to open my wallet it would probably be for a '500.

I think the R will always have tbe edge and be more collectable. But a lot of it is it's prestige.

If there was no R but just options for a single GT350 (sort of like the 500 ... thee is no 500R but there is he carbon pack options, etc). Tjere is a chance in the end I may of ended up with pretty close to the base 350 anyway.

But the R is so cool and I love the carbon wing and rims.

If I was a true track rat R all the way

The CFTP500 is much like the R, it is a limited allocation vehicle. You cant just go out and buy a CFTP or an R. Albeit, the 350 and 500 are allocated as well, but they are much more common.

The '20 GT350R Heritage edition will probably have the highest collectability down the road (outside of the very rare '15 R models).

I briefly entertained the idea of trading one of my Rs in for a '20 R heritage, but with the way things are going in the world and a CFTP 500 on the way, I decided not to pursue it.
