I had a 15 Eco Premium PP and it was a blast to drive, I absolutely loved the torque range on it. It felt very fast when launching it from a dead stop but that's the 3.55 gearing. I did find the rear broke loose pretty easily but nothing too bad. Too bad Ford had Helen Keller build it and it truly looked awful with the entire exterior a crooked mess, Ford bought it back under the FL Lemon Law.

My replacement is a 16 GT Premium PP and I love it. The 3.73 gears aren't too much for a DD but it doesn't feel as fast from a dead stop but that's probably more because of the weight than the 3.73 gears. The GT is plenty fast from a dead stop hard launching in 1st from a dead stop and you're in the I can get a serious ticket range in seconds. The wheel hop in the GT isn't nearly as bad as the Eco probably because of the weight and the Torsen rear, it definitely feels more planted and it's not as easy to break the rear loose. I definitely have broken the rear loose when I didn't realize that the road had a little moisture and I hard launched it. I felt the rear break right and then it tried to correct itself and started to break left before it straightened out, I didn't try to compensate for it myself and allowed the car to correct itself. I also didn't increase or decrease the throttle either and I don't generally panic when I feel the rear breaking loose. Hell after driving the previous generation for 9 years the IRS in the S550 is a much easier car to control by far. I also think that most traction issues are due to the Pirellis being the shitiest high performance tires on the market and I'm in FL where cold temperatures are rarely if ever an issue.

I love driving a manual and rowing through gears is a blast for me so the 3.73 gears are a sweet spot for me. The thing that bugs me is that the brake pedal is too high for heal toe and I will have to get a pedal extension for the throttle to fix that from Steeda.

The clutch on the Eco was horrible and numb but on the GT it's perfect and I have zero issue with it.

After testing a premium out last night I can say that the leather was very nice, but when out on the road I could have cared less about any other bell/whistle that the Premium had. That's how it is now for me...doesn't matter what I'm driving...the purpose and joy of the car is the drive...not fiddling with switches, changing colored lighting, etc.

And when sitting in the Base model, it felt just as good. Slightly different smell and obviously no leather. But it's not something I'm willing to pay an extra $4k-$5k for in order to get.

So after researching, testing, and doing some shopping up until this point, I'm thinking the Base GT w/ PP will be what I pull the trigger on. Only way I'd go for the Premium is if the prices came down significantly in the next 6 months or so.

Thanks for the replies!

Don't forget the recaros. Fully manual adjust and no slowly dying seat motors to worry about.. well, someday.

Recaros are a pricey option on the PP cars. I'm not sure the extra cost is warranted based only on trouble free seat adjustment. Besides, anything can break down the road.

I sat in a Recaro yesterday. My spine couldn't even touch the seat. No thanks.

I did like the manual adjust though. I see American Muscle sells the seat rails/brackets so I'm guessing when the motors break, they can be converted to manual. Yeah?

Thanks

Anyone mention if your roads are at all bumpy, the PP ride is downright bone jarring.
I actually thought it wasn't too bad for how well it performs. Much better than the Foxbody cars I'm used to.

Exactly how I felt. The only thing I will do eventually is a speaker upgrade. I didn't like the Recaros either, I thought the base seats were better and hugged you almost as well.

My commute is over some really bad roads. As far as I am concerned the PP suspension is pretty remarkable. For the level of performance the ride is amazingly smooth. Certainly not luxury barge smooth but no way is it bone jarring.

You could play around with tire sizes to better the feeling of a 3:73 rears. There's only a half an inch difference in rim width between fronts and rears. You could get something like a
265 - 50 - 19 on all four. With those having a larger circumference it will get you farther down the road than the 275-40. With the same turn of the driveshaft. So you now have essentially changed your gear ratio.

I have an 03 Explorer with power seats.... works fine to this day. Even the heat works in the seat. I don't understand the paranoia over power seats.... they kick ass - I've never had power seats go bad. If I did... how much is a power seat motor? $60 bucks?

I'm an averaged build guy 6'1 195lbs and the Recaro's side bolsters didn''t feel good, IMO. They need to be adjustable.
