Get either a Boss or a gt500, only clean ones.
Those are the top options for sure, but I wouldn't turn down a clean 2011-2014 GT if the price was right.
Finding a "Brembo Package" car would be icing on the cake. There seems to be a lot of them out there too.

In 2014 there was another option, I believe called a "Track Pack". Its a step above the previous "Brembo" option
It used some of the now discontinued BOSS upgrades like the radiator, Brembo brakes etc.
It DID NOT use the BOSS (Road Runner) engine though.
It is a somewhat special car in its own right.

S197’s are awesome cars. They nailed it
A friend of mine sent me a link to those Ford Performance side pipes recently.
There is a thread here somewhere about them installed on a Mach 1.
I will have to revisit it.

Do you think your Mach 1 now sounds similar to your old BOSS at idle??

You know..."Blub, Blub, Blub"...HA!
I wouldn’t say it sounds like the Boss, as the Boss is H pipe based and the s550 system is x pipe based. Overall it is loader than the Boss and very deep as well. It is by now means obnoxious, but it will turn heads.

I liked my 2011 Brembo GT as well. Great styling and fun to drive, but definitely a very harsh ride unless you have smooth pavement.

If you want to mod I’d get a 07-12 GT500…..stay stock and have some sort of collectibility Boss or 13/14 GT500

An 2011 or 2012 Shelby GT500 optioned right would be a great car to have and keep stock as well.
550 hp and 510 ft lbs or torque STOCK, sound pretty impressive to me. Plus they have the lighter aluminum block and other factory upgrades over the previous model years.
Good luck finding a stock, clean unmolested example.

Clean, very low mileage, 2103/2014 Shelby GT500s still go for $60K or more.
Fast and Furious but pricey for a 10 year old used car.

The topic of this thread is S197.2 cars. They hold a place in my heart, the BOSS especially.

But, if you like the early S197s, (the real retro looking 2005-2009 cars) you could buy a very nice example for about half the money (or less) than what a 2011 and up car cost.

The 4.6 engine is no Coyote, but it has a pretty good aftermarket performance support. There is also all kinds of suspension mods available.
You can do cams, headers an intake and tune and be roughly in the 330-350 rwhp range
For comparison a 2011/2012 Coyote, (the lowest rated ones at 412hp @ crank) put down roughly 365 rwhp bone stock.

If you could be happy with 330-350 rwhp, and a 6500 rpm ceiling, then a 4.6 car might be a great option.

The big issue is when you want more then 350 rwhp out of the 4.6.
Supercharging or turbo charging becomes your only financially sensible option. It isn't cheap and it brings with it other issues to contend with but it also brings an easy 400-500 rwhp or more.

Building a 400+ rwhp 4.6 N/A cost STUPID money....just CRAZY. The cost vs HP is not worth it.
A complete Coyote swap done right, isnt a cheap alternative either.

Just some food for thought, as I have been looking at this option myself.

2015 Mustang GT premium performance package.
I had a 2013 V6 with an MT82 and absolutely zero options. I added factory leather....that car sucked - 2.73 gears make that 300 horsepower feel like about 150.

I also had a 2014 GT - it was an automatic, premium car. 3.15 gears made it sluggish and boring.

Interior is terrible on both for various reasons.

Traded my 2014 for a 2015 premium GT with an MT82 - much, much better in every way....get a 2015
This is a bit random but I always wanted a 2013-14 gt as my first GT. Got a 2015 GT performance package a little over two weeks ago and I’m in love.
My first manual and the premium interior is such a good step up. Is there anywhere on here to post introductions?

12/13 Boss and call it a day. You will not loose on the car.
13 Boss is in my top three mustangs along with the 04 Cobra, and 20+ 500.

Hijacking for a min to ask your thots on ‘05-10 Shelby GT500’s. I know a Coyote with a blower would be more powerful, but they were “That Car” to me in HS, so curious how they’d compare with suspension mods, watts link and other goodies
