Just closed my keys in the trunk of my 2016, all the doors are locked and the trunk won't pop even though it usually does if the keys are in there. I was about to wash the car so its parked in the middle of the driveway blocking my other cars in. Please advise.

Call Ford roadside. They should be able to help.

Call roadside assitance and wash the car while you wait. You'll be done by the time they get there.

That's unusual.. my trunk doesn't latch closed if it detects the key in the trunk.. I would of thought if the key was inside the car/trunk you could at least unlock the door by touch..

None of this is supposed to happen.. you sir are screwed.

Sometimes it will not register in the trunk..Roadside assist will help...also if you close the key in the gas cover it will not register as well...used this trick to pickup my car from a bodyshop that closed early..I was able to pick my car up after hours and not worry about someone going inside of it.

Thanks guys, I thought roadside was going to take forever but I finished rinsing the car right as he pulled up. I got the key caught right behind the weather seal in between the deck lid. Hard to explain but I guess where it got caught didn't allow it to register the signal.

Happened to me, roadside was quick and efficient. I took the standard emergency key out of my backup fob and wired it up under the car. You know there's a standard key lock under a cover on the drivers side door handle.

Sheet metal on the trunk is thin. Got an ax?

I really shouldn't surf while drinking. :D

Did you ever try the trunk open switch just above the license plate? Seems that the key would have been close enough for that to pop.

Ding-ding-ding... I would have thought the same...

But... I've heard of some fobs going through a cycle - meaning if say the owner forgot the fob inside of the car, the ECU does a signal check every so often - if it detects the key is still in the car for a prolonged period of time, I think it temporarily disables the key to prevent theft...

Does the Ford fob do the same - which may explain why he was not able to open any of the doors?

That's why I said never to trust the key in vehicle safety. And many still wash the car with keys inside the car. If it fails, this happens.
