Good afternoon gentle folk.

The 5 year warranty is coming to an end on my '19 model GT manual. It has a touch over 30K on it, I plan to keep it, I do maybe 5K a year. Ford are offering an extension of the manufacturers warranty for another 3 years for $2K which I was tempted by but then I think if I do a clutch or something that could be replaced by a performance part I'd probably go aftermarket anyway so now I am kind of in a quandary over it.

Does anyone have a strong view either way? As I type I have kind of swayed from "yes it is pretty cheap for an extra 3 years" to "hmmm, could I be stuffed having to try to deal with Ford on warranty repairs when it takes like 2 months to get a service", but I'm still on the fence

You wouldn't get a clutch under warranty anyway so that's not an issue., or were you referring to the fact that your $2k could be better put to good use. Mine just came out of warranty too and it's never been near a dealer the same as my GT Falcon before her for over 13 years.
I would say keep your money as your unlikely to use it , and if you do have to we have all been through the wars trying to get things fixed under warranty and more often than not, the battle with them is just not worth it.

If you are going to keep your car, you might want to consider the extension. Your car is older. One major repair could cost more than 2k. Now, there are folks who are anti extended warranty. I get it. But if it were me, I would consider it. Maybe consider whether or not you can cover the cost of a big repair on your own. Personally, I have an extended with my current M1. I am keeping this car and for me it was totally peace of mind.

argh, MachnRoll and GT450 have expressed exactly why I am on the fence, with their completely at odds but perfectly valid points.

What is making me lean toward not going ahead with it is that I am more likely than not to mod the car, perhaps a tune at least or a supercharger at most (more for noise than power), so likely issues with engine and drivetrain warranty claims, still plenty of stuff that could go wrong but I also just cant be ratsed dealing with Ford...

But thanks a heap, this has been helpful to work it through.

Hi Bruce ask the owners that have run well past the 30Kms their thoughts , there are many on here with lots higher mileage without any problems. If you don't mod it and service it regularly then all should be good. If you're worried then buy the warranty but then you will worry if you have just shelled out for something you may never use.
in my early days of new car ownership i used to think , i have anew car with warranty and i proceeded to ask the dealer to fix any problem i found. As i got older i found the dealer caused more problems than they solved and the battles to get things right just weren't worth the agony.
My Falcon did 13 great years without ever going near a dealer for service or warranty, had i serviced it to their schedule i would have received 2 years extra warranty but there were catches. It had to be done every 6 months and the upselling would have made them a fortune , on things that didn't necessarily need doing. It ran faultlessly with just regular care.
Toss a coin , heads you buy tails you don't only you can make the decision and it is your money. Best of luck deciding.

Hi Peter,
If your going to renew the warranty i would really think weather or not you are going to mod
your stang or not, if there's a possibillity that you are i would probly not take the extended warranty.
Ford at the best of times will allways look for a loop hole not to come to the party if an issue
does happen to arise especially if the car is not dead stock,i personally did not extend mine for this reason as i am planning on getting the enine tuned and gearbox tuned.
So i think by adding extra power to engine the whole powertrain /drivetrain diff /axels would not be coverd so that don't leave to much to cover.
I would personally save your $$$ and spend it on go fast mods.:like:

Every time you have an opportunity to buy an extended warranty, just put that money in the bank. You'll eventually have enough to cover anything that goes wrong with any product. Not a guarantee, but the odds would be in your favor, because they're not when you're the buyer. Simple! I do have a glass half full outlook, however. 🤷‍♂️ Good luck!

Best thing to do is check the fine print of the warranty.
See what is excluded and what isn't.

It's common knowledge that most extended warranties for consumer household goods are not worth the paper they're written on. They're up-sold by retailers because they make a margin on them, which is all they care about.

Cheers, yeah decided against it but just looking at the email it says it is offered by ANW insurance and excludes paint panel and trim

Extend Your Car Warranty
Extended warranty coverage mirrors the benefits of your existing manufacturer's warranty across covered components up to today's market value of your motor vehicle*.
Anything covered as part of your manufacturer warranty will be covered with AWN Insurance; however, we do exclude paint, panel and trim.
