Not my mustang but thought some of you might be able to help. My boat motor, which is a standard GM car motor, is not showing oil on the dip stick after it's driven. If I wait a little over an hour oil will start to show up. by 2 hours all oil has returned to the pan and shows it is slightly above full. The motor has oil it's just taking forever to filter down into the pan.

Any suggestions on what could be causing the problem?

That's the way it should be. Checking the oil on a motor that just ran is going to have misleading reading. If the dipstick reads low after only 10% is "missing", then that 10% is probably still covering the rest of the internals.

Look in the manual to verify everything is ok. Seems like a long time to wait IMO. Does it have an oil pressure gage? If so, is the oil pressure fine after running at full throttle for some time? How old is this engine?
