You can't forget that people are getting heavier. Takes a much more robust structure to properly support and restrain 300lbs than 150lbs most people weighed decades ago. Not to mention just needing a physically larger space to house these larger people. Need to accelerate and stop this weight. Need bigger brakes. Bigger brakes need bigger heavier wheels. All that adds weight. Also gotta have all the new fangled tech and screens and infotainment. Adds more weight.

I think I read 2/3 of America is overweight or obese. Although BMI isn't the most accurate indicator to go by. Big car, big person, fast car now slow car.

I love weighing 145 pounds of lean muscle. I get a great power to weight ratio. Both me and the car, haha!

I wonder how much that is worth in the 1/4th mile compared to someone who weighs 250 pounds?

That is BS. Plenty car manufactures make lighter yet stronger cars than Mustangs. For it's heft and type, Mustangs have terrible crash safety.
It's not how much metal they use but rather how they engineer where the metal should be.
Yes the Mustang has gone a bit hefty over the years. I would prefer a 7/8 size Mustang with 500lbs in weight reduction.
And which cars are you saying are comparable? This includes comparable crash ratings too.

I just checked the "What things weigh" thread and noticed that the 15-17 GT with the 6 speed auto weighs in at 3704 compared to the new 2018 GT with the 10 speed auto weighing in at 3860.

A 156 pound weight gain is nothing to scoff at. That's like having a passenger permanently riding with you at all times.

Now, I know this may seem like I'm trying to justify to myself that I have the better product but honestly, after seeing that weight gain, any intention I had of possibly trading in my 2016 GT in for a new GT just went out the window.

I know everyone has different priorities when it comes to performance but for me it has always been about minimizing weight. A lighter car will handle, accelerate, and brake better compared to an identical car with the same hardware (suspension/brake components).

Don't get me wrong, I think the performance of the new car is fantastic but I just can't get past the idea of a near 2 ton Mustang. The weight of the 15-17 was bad enough so anything more is just too much for me.

Just my thoughts. Like they say, to each his own.

I think the '17 PP GT is right at 3800 and change. bigger brakes, tires, etc. stuff adds up, So about 50lb weight gain with the auto is pretty good imho.

Really? That's all, huh? Hmm... I would have thought it would have been worth a bit more but I'm no straight-line/1/4 mile specialist so I'll take your word for it.

I'm betting it has a more significant effect on a road course though. Braking, acceleration, directional change. A lot more factors to be considered when one isn't just going in a straight line.

Full tank of gas is the difference.

Agreed. Much better advantage on the road course.

Curb weight with fluids included a full tank.

I’m not surprised at this. I bet the premium car is over 3900.

My base Gt350 bone stock with 1/4 tank was 3696 and ford claims 3760 curb which makes it fall within the noise including the full tank. Right on the money.

So I'm a bit confused. Does the weight of the auto equipped GT, that was weighed in "what things weigh" thread, include a full tank of gas or not?

If so, then my prior assessment of a 156 pound difference still stands. If not, then really, there hasn't been much of a change between the previous model and the 2018.
