OUCH, Tom but you gots to do what you gots to do, I get it. I'm surprised though to read about folks not knowing to snug the lap belts tight first before the shoulder harnesses.

I went with the Schroth quick fit pro. If you want to use a HANS device and I recommend it, make sure you go with the quick fit pro as the regular quick fit is not HANS compatible.

I added a buckle recie to the rear compartment from the 2017 Mustang so it still works. I just pull up the buckle I need for the rear seat.

I took some pics but havenā€™t put up in my build thread yet. Need to take some more shots when I do the passenger side. Highly recommend them. Used them at their first track day let month and they did an excellent job with the OEM Recaros in my base GT500.

I wish the Recaros had a slot for the 5/6 pt belts. But they donā€™t. The 4 pt works fine for me (doesnā€™t ride up on me if I tighten the lower belts first).
The 4 pt is sooo much better than the stock system. And I use a HANS as well.
I did put a race seat in an older Mustang once, and that was the right approach along with a 6pt system. But for the occasional HPDE, the Recaroā€™s & Schroth 4pt system is just right.
there is a way to run a 6pt harness with your seat. To my understanding(if the seats are designed similar to GT350s) you should be able to lift the flap of the back of the seat where the seat bottom and seat back meet to slide the sub belts through. someone makes a custom mount that bolts in our cars so you have the ability to run sub belts with stock seats (Recaros and non Recaros).

Some clubs tech won't allow that. I remember speaking with schroth about it and yes you can do that, but it comes down the the event and the club you are running with.

That makes sense. I didn't think about local club rules or event rules.

I just bought the schroth Profi II ASM in black to match the black cage and interior in the 500. With discount, no tax, and free shipping, it was $674. I couldn't bear to use the red ones from my R that I traded in. The good news is I have another lightweight Watson cage in red that those harnesses will go well with.

I saw that version somewhere. Seems like sitting on the anti-submarine belt does not do much good....

Yup. It was my first event with them. Well run event I thought and will run with them again.
I owned the club for over 15 years and sold it to Andrew and Evan last year
They are doing a great job
Iā€™m there at most of their events instructing

For anyone that may be interested, Schroth Racing is planning to have the QuickFit Pro 4 point harness available for the GT500 in January or February 2021.
