Anyone know if this has to do with the tires being brand new? Just got them put on 3 hours ago and on the highway it feels like the car is swaying back and forth in the rear. It’s actually really scary.

I had the same tires on it before but never this bad.

is it because the tires are brand new? Do they have some sort of release agent causing it and I need to take it easy for the first couple hundred miles with them? I don’t remember last time.

Is this something new? Or do I need to just break in the tires per se? I did get home and discount tire set my rear PSI to 41 and that’s way too high so I let air out for those tires

Lower the pressure and put a couple hundred miles on them

New tires can feel loose for a few miles. Dropping the pressure should help. Ive never experienced that on this car but I had new tires on my truck that felt dangerous on the freeway for a day or two.

You need to give them a few hundred miles. As you suspect its the release agent causing it to feel slippery. That being said I was never a fan of the Nitto G2555.

Every time I’ve purchased tires they were overinflated and not by a little. Drives me nuts. Last tires I got were aired up to 51 psi on each tire. Precisely 51 on each so whatever moron that works there was super diligent about being wrong four times.

check the pressures. Cheap tire shops won't set the correct pressures after they mount them so start there.

Yes, new tire blocks are squirmy and can feel worse after a worn down, hardened set of tires. They'll firm up a bit and/or you'll get used to it. Also its not a great tire, so some of that may be just you get what you pay for.

Any tire needs to be scrubbed in and won't be itself for the first miles. Give it a tank of gas or two.

As always, anytime someone mentions the rear 'swaying' I'm going to advise you check your hubs for play. That will absolutely can feel like swaying in a disconcerting way, and its real bad if you don't like handling surprises, so worth a check. Hubs don't last forever, might be coincidence with the timing of the new tires going on (probably its the tires).

And also, as always - Friends don't let friends buy Nittos 555G2s. They're cheap for a reason.

It’s unfortunate that “cheap” is $336 a tire and almost $800 for both tires and install. I refuse to pay for Michelins that are $500 a tire for 305/35r19 when the nittos get the job done. I didn’t have any issue the whole duration they were on before. Always hooked up too.

also I can check my hubs for sure. Might be worth a look. I replaced the rear hubs with oem ones a few months ago. I hope they’re not bad already.

New tires are always squirrelly. They need 100 miles or so of break in.

I think the swaying is momentary loss of traction, i used to get that a lot with the stock pirelli AS on full throttle runs.

I believe those tires are "directional", make sure they are pointed in the right direction and mounted with the word "outside" where you can see it.....

Truer words have never been spoken.

And OP, yes the Nitto G2’s are a cheap tire compared to a Michelin or Continental. They drive like it too (I had a set on a previous S550). If you’re looking for a less expensive tire in the future, quite a few people here rave about the Firestone Indy500’s. I can’t vouch for them personally but you’ll find several here that will. Drop the pressures down to the recommended 32 psi and after a few miles they should feel better (as far as Nitto G2’s go anyway).

I wanted those tires but they don’t make them 305 for a 19 in wheel unless you go to 325s.
I just wanted to get off the cupped tires as soon as possible.

I’m at about 54 miles on them so far.

Dang I just ordered these tires. Wanted to go with the continentals but they aren't available at this time through the shop I'm going with. They're my only option where I live as nobody else will do alignment on my car since it has the steeda stop the hop package. Weird I know but that's how the shops in my area roll apparently and don't feel like driving over an hour to next area with a bunch of shops. So hopefully they aren't that bad.
