True, the first '18s reached here in the UK a couple of months ago, and are only just arriving in Australia now.

So, S650 will arrive in 2022 for you guys, 2023 for the rest of us!

I just hope they continue to invest in the current car. Not massively, but keep the interest going. TN, you indicated more SEs.....this is what will keep sales going and interest high(er) before the (not-quite) all new car arrives.

These are certainly unsettling times for Ford enthusiasts :(

If this happens to happen, I assume the Hybrid Mustang won't show up by 2020 as expected but until 2022.

The S550 may be selling well, but I'd wager sales will slide within the next two years. We'll then have an ageing product that won't sell well for the last two years of its lifecycle. Genius!
But you have to remember that by 2020 most if not all of the R&D costs associated with the development of the S550 chassis have long been covered. By then, it's purely a cashcow even if sales decrease.

Developing a whole new S650 chassis will obviously incur alot of R&D costs, so by pushing those off further down the line while cashing in on the existing "paid off" S550 chassis is not a bad idea financially unless sales completely tank and then they are just sitting on inventory for months.

Ah, good call. Yes, one would assume a hybrid S550 would be a compromised design (should they still deliver it for 2020 as originally announced). Or it'll be pushed back to 2022 and be "designed in" with the S650......

As far as I know the Hybrid WILL BE a S650.

There is a guy on LinkedIn that states he "Lead PMA for CD6 Bundle 2 (2022 Ford Mustang) Powertrain initiative" CY?
So maybe CD6 Bundle 1 is the Explorer/Aviator due for MY2020

SUV modular platform for a sports car... uhh huh..

CD6 weight reduction is already causing pain.:ninja:

Looks like if I want a 450+ hp Coyote motor with a 3100# curb weight I am going to need to drop the motor in a BRZ.

When you have a modular platform, you sacrifice excess modulus gradient in structure and end up with mass where you dont need it. That extra 200# comes back to haunt you in gas mileage and performance. At one point, there was supposed to be a lighter weight version of the Mustang.

I still think there is a strong case for concurrent production of a large AND small Mustang. Look how Porsche rings the register on the 911 styling by applying that styling to multiple chassis.

Mustang IS ITS OWN BRAND. RING THE REGISTER ON THAT?
There is soooo much money on the table for Ford here.

Mustang Big: 2 Door, full weight, Grand Touring

Mustang Big XUV: CUV/Shooting Brake variant

Mustang Small Hatch: Apply Mustang Styling to 3400# Ecoboost 4/2 door Focus RS based AWD hot hatch

Mustang Small Variant: 3100# Ecoboost 2 door

What platform is the new Lincoln Aviator on?

I remember seeing a photo showing the very S550 like IRS set-up.

Thinking we may see a Boss and Mach1 during the S550 run? Still finding it hard to believe Mach1 being reserved for anything else.

CD6.

Certainly it was reported that the rear suspension on the concept Aviator was a dead ringer for the S550's......

I don´t think so. IMO we will only see the GT500, the Bullitt for a longer run and the 55th Anniversary, that's it.

Doubt Ford will put money into a S550 Refresh #2 since it will be a 5 year run for for Refresh #1 (2018 thru 2022 model years) ... only 2 more years than the 2015 thru 2017 models. If Ford does a refresh, it will probable be very minor ... call it Refresh #2.1.
