I'm going to get a dedicated set of tires and wheels for track this year. I'm fairly set on the Apex EC-7 19"x10" 35's for a square setup. I keep seeing advice to go wide as you can but I wonder can my GT front handle 285/R19's? The Apex fitment and best track picks says you can go 275/R19 or 285/R19 but can't be 100%.

Fitment the Apex EC-7 19"x10 with 35 offset (correction 40 offset). Adding Steeda dual rate springs dropping the car .75". Can I run 285's front and back without rub and no poke? I want to rotate tires this time around. thanks

Yes you can. It’s a very mild setup used all the time
If you really become a track addict, you will sooner or later go to 305 on 11
Which track tires are you planning to use ?

Pretty well hooked but working to balance money spent to fun ratio. I'm wanting to try out the new Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 tire. Nowhere ready for Cup 2's.

I am running the SM10's 19x10 ET40 with 285/35 Michelins w/ Magneride shocks and they fit with a few cm to spare.
Pretty sure the EC-7 19x10's for the S550 are all 40 offset but either way you should be good to go.

Conti Force, Kumho 730, Hankook RS4

There are better options than the conti sport (which is a good street tire, its just really soft in the sidewall for track)

Some of us daily on 285/35R19 on 19x10 ET 35 street tires, so yes it fits.

I think the Apex EC7 is ET 40 iirc. But no big deal, just FYI.

okay hmmmmm... on the offset thanks 40 which is the Ford spec too for the stock setup. Funny Apex has a ton of specs but not offset in their online Specs? Folks we're saying the new Conti Sport 02 was a Pilot 4S replacement less dollar. I did okay last season on the 4S's but that was also Novice. Thing is the Kumho or Hankook are either going to be 295's or 305's. fwiw the Hankook RS4 on Tirerack is sold out for the season already!!! ;-? Now I have to rethink....

Go r18. I plan on spending my track days using 265 and 275 widths. Tires were dirt cheap (140-200): sc3r, v730, etc. I'm not looking for times, rather car control and learning limits and recovery.

I do have a pile of 305 and also used slicks so if I want more tire I have choices.

The ps4s is a poor track tire

If it's track only go with 18x11" square so you can get tons of cheap slicks. I run 19x11" ET26/ET52 and this works with stock suspension but you do need camber plates and at least -3 degrees of camber which is good enough. 305 is the minimum you want from your track set.

The GT is also my "road trip" car, I'm using the stock wheels with Conti's for trips. Track is the other half of the GT fun life but I have budget limit (not cheaping out just limits for now).

As others said, what you are looking to do, you will be fine fitment wise.

Just my two cents, go with the 18" rims. There are a lot more tire options out there in the 18" rim, where as the 19" it gets a little more paired down. I would love to run 315 yok's on my 11.5" rim, but no options for me.

You will love those Apex rims. They are a huge upgrade and great looking, and Apex has great quality at that price point IMO. Also, love that you're rocking the drop top. Reminds me of my friends 89 5.0, or any number of Roush cars I had posters of growing up!

Agreed. The 18" wheels would have given me so many more options when it came to tires. I picked my Apex wheels up used so only ended up with 19x11's wearing 305's. Eventually I may go to an 11.5 and 315's or 325's if someone can offer something in the 200tw rating.

It's better to buy one set of wheels than two sets you know.
