Honestly I still think the s550 GT350R was/is one of the best performance cars for the money. It’s the best looking s550 in my opinion.

I saw someone post the announcement on Facebook and thought it was a joke because I was confused. Wonder what the sale will be like.

Meant to add that the S550 GT4 is one of the best looking performance cars this century.

GT350R is pretty hard to beat off the lot.

If only I was in the position to buy a R in 2020 when dealers were giving away cars. *sigh*

Is it weird that the GT350/GT350R built by Ford seems more special then the GT350/GT350R built by Shelby?
This was my exact thought. Shelby American seems to have gone way down hill over the years. They just slap a supercharger on the car and call it a Shelby.

Carroll would be pissed.

I mean, when did they really do anything more than they are doing now?

The biggest ripoff they did was the Shelby GT models.

At least the old Supersnake cars were based on the GT500 and not the GT

I'm not sure that the flip is true. Shelby American products have always been part swap cars. We just shifted the baseline and expectation with the 6th Gen 350/500 projects because those were Ford cars licensed by Shelby. Ford Racing didn't just take a regular GT and swap a few usual suspects, they started with a bunch of different components.

Now everyone has that in their mind as what these "Shelby" variants should be, a very unique car.

But the reality is the SA products have always been a regular Ford production car with some parts swapped out.

So I'm not sure they've gone downhill so to speak, they're just doing what they've always done and everyone's expectations are higher now because of the license product program.

A super snake was always just a swapped car. Unique and badass at the time before the widespread proliferation of blown motor models.

Now, slapping a blower on it and some wheels and a wing doesn't punch as hard anymore. ESPECIALLY when the license product programs gave us stuff like the TR3160 and the DCT. For all their glory, the SA products of the past decade have been saddled with the god awful MT82 (or the autos).

In summary, Shelby American is simply doing what they've always done. The problem for them is that we've all been spoiled by the licensed product and now our expectations are higher.

While I agree, these are starting to have their day. Whenever a nice example hits the floor here at the local collector car emporium, they're snapped up quickly at ludicrous prices. Might have something to do with that vaunted CSM number.

I think you nailed. Some people just want that CSM. Even if the VIN comes back as a GT from factory, the Shelby registry does have value to some folks. I considered it for my GT, although my motivation was more the looks than the CSM. Now, I can buy 90% of the package from SA at a fraction of what they charge. It really comes down to if you want that CSM or some of the exclusive parts that comes with their packages.

At one point, before the S550 GT500 was a thing, I seriously looked into having Shelby widebody my '15; from there the intent was to twin turbo it through Fathouse. In discussions with Shelby, since it wasn't a full Super Snake conversion, it wouldn't have received a CSM number, but still would have been tagged as modified by Shelby American and would still have had a spot in the registry. I don't think you can have a car widebodied now without it being a Super Snake.
