We can hate and gatekeep all we want but lets just appreciate the fact that in this generation of EV mandates and offerings, SA is still around selling these machines, even if they are marked up, with hopefully a new Boss or Cobra variant from Ford to add to the mix soon. Would rather split hairs about what is a "real Shelby" instead of seeing the slow decay of ICE.

No mention of transmission availability except for ā€œshort throw shifterā€. I read that as M6 only. As it should be!

Donā€™t know about that anymore. When I drove a Porsche 911 I rented at Touro, I was really impressed mostly with the automatic transmission. Itā€™s amazing how fast and how accurate those shifts are. Itā€™s almost as though the trans can predict what you expect to happen. Probably as complicated as a Rolex though if it breaks.
Takeaway- an automatic like that is absolutely at home in a Shelby. Itā€™s breathtaking. Just want to give it back before it breaksā€¦ :)

The s550 GT500's DCT behaves a lot like you've described, it's pretty damn good.

Do not confuse Porsche's PDK dual clutch with the A10 thet Ford uses in the Mustang GT. The more direct comparison is the Tremec Dual Clutch from the GT500 and ever C8 produced. Wish Ford would have upgraded all of the auto cars to the Tremec DCT unit the way Corvette did. Should be DCT standard with an optional available Tremec Manual. Ditch the A10 and MT82 entirely.

And you want Ford to do that at no cost? Of course you do otherwise there will be a million posts regarding the absurd cost of the Mustang. Now might we see the DCT in an upcoming special model? Sure hope so.

Isn't that a $20,000 transmission?

Obviously not, but given that my dad's 2024 Mustang GT stickered for more than my 2018 GT350 and yet still exists on much the same S550 chassis, I'd have hoped they could have delivered some actual improvements besides sticking two ipad's in the dash.

On top of that while the trans may retail for $20K if you bought one from the Ford parts department, that's not the cost to put them into the car and certainly not the cost if Ford started buying them at scale. The A10 retails for $10,000 itself so assume that the Tremec DCT in "Ford-Spec" only costs about twice what an A10 costs even though they were only used in one limited production model.

Doesn't that trans also need a very expensive filter/fluid change every 40k?

not the right thing for a plain Jane mustang

Iā€™d be all for the Tremec DCT as the standard transmission for the Mustang. Itā€™s far and away superior to the A10. I think there would be more than a few rumblings from the manual guys though, much like the initial reaction to the C8. Price of the Mustang would likely go up as well. You can still get a base GT for low/mid $40ā€™s, that wouldnā€™t be the case with a DCT. Probably starting in the high $50ā€™s/low $50ā€™s if I had to guess.

Regarding volume, the trend is not Mustangā€™s friend. Granted, itā€™s more volume than just the GT500 alone, but is it enough to keep the base price lower than a C8? Because a base C8 outperforms a Mustang GT by a considerable margin. And Corvette sales are not drastically different than Mustang sales these days

Iā€™m sorry, but what fool would buy this? SA is charging $63k add on to a base GT for a whipple, springs, sway bars, wheels, other minor items, and a decal package. This is nowhere near the Shelby GT350 that Ford Perf engineered.

One could buy a low mileage ā€˜22 Shelby GT500 for $30k less that will outperform it and look better, while being a much more special and complete engineered performance car.

Hate to say it, but the Mustang as we know it, probably has its days numbered. Weā€™re just a boomer bleed or two away from extinction I fear.
