The gt350 and R would’ve been legendary with the 10R80…

huge missed opportunity… they could’ve actually been something
The early GT350's and GT500's did come with an option for an auto.

10R80 wasn't available in a Mustang in 2016 when the GT350 came out

10R80 can't hang at the race track anyway

With proper cooling (like the GT350 and GT500 and Mach 1 have) it would do just fine
I posted two examples of the DH overheating the auto trans on the track

C&D did it too:

The Dark Horse's biggest letdown is its 10-speed automatic. It doesn't take many laps before the gauge warns of rising fluid temperatures. And with the heat come gear indecisiveness and untimely downshifts.

The 2021 Mach 1 they ran didn't have that problem but it was a manual

As a relatively uneducated Ford historian, what characteristics make a mustang worthy of the GT350 moniker and does this new SA GT350 fit the bill?

It used to be low power and set up for road racing, but a few gens it just meant wheels and stickers, then it was unreliable but great looking “car show capable”

Now it’s a blown coyote, suspension AND stickers and body mods… so… pretty much this is the cream of the crop for GT350 historians like yourself

it’s never been available with a stronger engine, nicer interior or better transmission (10R80) and you get the bespoke body parts

which leads the the 110K price tag, I would expect them all to be spoken for and plan on HUGE ADM’s…
It’s just a complete home run 🤩

To me, A GT350 should be a no frills manual trans high rpm monster

The original GT350 was a track car as was the reincarnation in 2015. 0-60 times are for the dragstrip and is the purview of the GT500.
Is that so?

That specific car was no slouch and faster than the GT500 and Supersnake that year

Since he’s referencing the original 60’s cars, yes that is correct. The GT350 was the lighter track car and the GT500 was the sledgehammer. That has remained mostly true since

Sure, the 500 usually got the larger engine. But for the car in the post he quoted (2011 GT350, the car in the picture) it wasn't true that year

he mentioned the 2015 GT350 and of course there was no 500 that year
