Go for the auto. Trust me, you can have PLENTY of fun in it.
My car is an auto, and apart from somewhat slows up shifts, I have to say, in Sport mode it complements the power of the 5.0 quite well.
During spirited driving it stays in the appropriate gear and won't up shift until the driver reverts back to a more civilized mode of throttle application. After applying about half throttle or more, you can watch the tach hovering around 4000-5000 RPM for a good 6 seconds before you can hear it up shift to the appropriate cruising gear if no more hard throttleing is performed. In that sense, you can keep the engine in the power band with none of the issues usually associated with an automatic transmission.
In addition, it is a pretty bulletproof trans at the end of its production cycle so you won't likely have any longevity, durability, or reliability concerns. It's been in use in several applications for many years so any issues with it have long since been addressed.
When you test drive this car make certain to drive it in Sport mode otherwise the transmission will operate like the usual shit auto boxes that one find in economy cars, thus making you think the car has a lackluster transmission.
