It takes a lot of careful masking to get it done right. There is a black backing paint that you spray on it after it drys. I do the chrome trim first. If I am using any black paint on the body, I do that next then what ever colors afterwards. The general rule of thumb is Chrome + Backer paint first, then spray whatever color scheme you are using do the darkest color next then go to the next lighter color. White is always sprayed last.
LOL... come on man! It came out "OK?"...
I just finished this one to replace the silver Miata body body on my Tamiya mini. My first attempt at a flame paint job. Its OK, but I think I can do better next time. I was out of chrome paint for the flames so I had to use aluminum. This one was done with Proline water based paint and an airbrush. I kinda screwed up the fade from the yellow into the white on the front bumper. Got some over spray, but the body is gonna get tore up on the track anyway. Tamiya mini races turns into a demolition derby at times.
So awesome!!! Love the lights too!A couple more of the van... these tires aren't exactly made for snow but they did pretty damn well. This brushless TRX4 is unstoppable.
Yeah, it goes on like regular paint. Be warned, this stuff has a STRONG smell to it when you spray it, stronger than normal paint. The smell goes away though. Be in a well ventilated area when you use it.Thanks!! That looks like an awesome product.
Based on your description of spraying the black backing, I am guessing that this works like a typical lexan paint where you paint from the inside. Its good to know that it still forms the chrome surface even when there is a layer of polycarbonate between you and the paint!
Looks good! I like Tamiya stuff. They make excellent shelf queens.Straight up box art build of the Tamiya Lancia 037. Technically, I have run this thing but I think I like it better on the shelf.
