Hey all,

Been looking into J-Pipes/Hemholtz Resonator/Quarterwave Resonator setups to eliminate my drone. I have quite a bit of drone with my X-Pipe/Muffler Delete on my '22 GT and want to eliminate it without compromising on the sound.

I've seen the other threads with the chart indicating what length J-Pipe I should go for at what RPM/Frequency. I've narrowed it down to a 24" or 22.9" pipe which aims to combat frequencies generated at 2100/2200 RPM and read that it should target 200 RPM +/- in that range as well. So from 1900 RPM to 2500 RPM is where the drone is the loudest.

Questions I had:
- What diameter should the pipe be? I was thinking 2.5". Also stainless steel.
- How much of a bend should I go for? I was going to reference the images below as far as shape goes but some reccommended a 180 degree bend which I don't think I would have the space for.
- I also wanted to know if the quarterwave is any different from the j-pipe/hemholtz. From my understanding they connect to the side of my X-Pipe and run back up towards the engine but are an enclosed pipe so essentially leads to nowhere to allow the frequency to muffle out.

This can help some but dont expect the j pipes to fully remove your drone on a mufflerless resonatorless system. The best would be to put a packed resonator on it like a vibrant ultraquiet or similar, then put catless/high flow cats on if you really want it to be super loud

I’m doing this because I don’t want to mess with my cats. This is also the most cost effective method at combating drone. It won’t eliminate it but it will reduce it quite a bit and make it more bearable. I’ve been driving like this for 2 years now so I’m more or less used to it but for long drives it’s getting old lol.

I get ya, but still, without a resonator at all, based off my mini, nothing will fix drone in a straight pipe

a straight thru no packing resonator can do alot on a catted setup, imo you should try putting two 6-9ā€ straight thru resonators and see if that will fix your drone plus the j pipes to further enhance the drone reduction. J pipes alone will not do much refinement if you already have no refining factors in the exhaust

I mean if I have to get j-pipes anyways then I’ll just go ahead and get them and if it’s not enough I’ll look into the straight through resonator. I’m not sure if the straight through resonator will affect the overall sound either.

They will do more than the j pipes, j pipes really only take care of bad sound waves, not the issues of a straight pipe

how big us your catback diameter? If its 3ā€, you can make your catback go down to 2.5ā€ for a couple inches before the tips, that can reduce drone as well

or if you have oversize tips, reducing those can also reduce the drone

Extending the pipe past the bumper helps too.
