this…

I've swapped battery between OEM and lithium lightweight Antigravity one probably about 20 times.
Never reset BMS, neither lost any settings of anything.

There is no reason to overthink it, just swap it and pay attention to not short it while doing it.
or this…

I’ve changed numerous batteries with the engine at idle without issues, obviously remove all clamps etc before disconnecting and have the new battery ready to lift straight in, no need to reset clocks or radio stations etc
…just swapped mine in the 350R with no reset, all is well 😎

I’ve done it numerous times in 40 years in the motor trade including many modern vehicles and never had a problem
There’s also people who change their conventional oil every 10K miles or more and not had problems. Doesn’t make it a good practice.

Bottom line since you can reset the bms in about a minute with no scan tool I think it’s best practice to do it.

I also think most of the time you will not have any negative effects from not resetting the bms.

The car has a capacitor that store voltage and keeps the power to it for a few days so replacing the battery won't hurt anything should me no need to reset anything(stop over thinking it) ,KISS (KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID)

I've never seen such an overcomplication for changing a battery. Literally unplug the old one, plug in the new one and continue on with life. This hasn't changed for decades.

I, too, have been changing car batteries for decades and never had to mess with resetting anything. That's because older cars had nothing to reset. These cars do. It's there for a reason, and the reset procedure takes all of 10 seconds, so why not do it? Sure, your car will run fine if you don't, but who knows how much longer the battery might last if the charging system can perform as designed and recognize the difference between old and new batteries?

Some things may keep the memory with the 9V backup system that came out with the early iterations of OBDII. I'm not sure it will fly with these newer vehicles since they have so many modules on board (mine has 22) and although they draw very little current the voltage may not be sufficient to maintain memory on all of them. BTW, this is only to keep stored data and settings, it will not reset the BMS which must be reset to 0 months so it knows it's a new battery. Most decent pro-type scanners will have a function to reset it, some consumer level ones may also.

This is perhaps the worst advice I have ever seen given in this group. It's not the 70's anymore.
