Went to remove the brass vent plug on my 2200sl supercharger and I stripped it. I’ve tried hammering in a torx bit and it just strips it even more. Tried using a hand help impact driver and didn’t work. Tried cutting slit and using a flat head screw driver and didn’t work. Everything I try just strips it even more. I even tried JB weld a Torx bit and the JB weld won’t adhere to the bronz (yes I cleaned it off). Any ideas?

before you say anything, I know I over tightened it too much. And I know now that I don’t need to ever remove it to add the oil.

Try epoxying (5 min. epoxy) a flathead screwdriver in there and see if that will allow you to back it out.

Is that any stronger than JB weld?
It’s pretty strong stuff. I’ve never used JB weld before, but it seems like it would be gritty and brittle.

Another thing to try would be to braze a sacrificial screwdriver or an Allen wrench to the brass plug and then turn it out.

These work really well. Kind of hard to find. They are tapered. Tap in with a hammer and use a wrench or socket to remove. I use them often at work.

You could also try drilling through the center of plug and then use an easy out. I prefer the square easy outs, but that is just a personal preference. I have had better luck with them than the spiral ones.

I have tried easy outs but since the metal
Is so soft it can get a bite and strips
It even more. I don’t want to drill all the way through because I don’t want metal shaving inside. Sucks but seems like I am just going to send back to vortech and have them do it. Hopefully won’t be too expensive.

With it being soft brass you can work it slowly with progressively larger bits. If you load the bit with grease, you can minimize the chance of shavings dropping in. If you get the brass thin enough it might break out with an ez-out.

Braising a screwdriver or an extension to the plug would probably work.

I’d try this before sending it back. You can use a small cheap torch and brazing rod and it’ll be almost as strong as a weld.

You may want to soak it in PB blaster over night too. Let it work its way down into the threads.

wait a minute, you have never used JB Weld, Ouch. I have used that on hundreds of projects due to its strength. LOL

I’ve seen it and handled some before, but never personally used it. I didn’t feel like it was all it was said to be based on feel, but apparently it is strong and has it’s place for some jobs.

I used JB weld and it’s not sticking to the brass. I also tried a butane torch with solder and it’s not sticking. I’ve cleaned it multiple times and used a wire brush and still not sticking. Tried the epoxy and same thing.
I couldn’t get the bronze rod to melt with a small butane torch
