Sorry for the delay on my progress. I received my Stage 2 Whipple Kit with the Flare tool, 3.625" pulley, upgraded fans and IC pump from Lethal Performance back around April 9 and just installed it last Friday into the early hours of Saturday. I work in the oilfield so needless to say I'm gone a lot! I also ordered MMR OPGs, crank sprocket, and their balancer pulley to do at the same time.
After 21 straight days of working a total of 257 hours I got to come home last Thursday. I went to my buddy's shop and we began the tear down at 1:30 PM for the OPGs. By 5 PM we had the car timed and the timing cover back on! We began at 8 AM Friday with the Whipple install. Overall it wasn't a bad project. My manual was dated for Feb but there were a few variances here and there but we figured it out.
Easier Method of Timing the motor:
Use white out to mark all the spots where the chains are on the cams and crank sprocket. Fairly easy given the colored links of the chains. Unbolt 1 front cam retainer on each head, tear a piece of paper big enough to cover the exposed section of each cam(maybe a 2"x3" piece) and bolt it down on the cam. Press your tensioners in and pin them to remove the chains. Nothing moves and your motor is still in time. All you have to do is put your chains on using the colored links as guides to the cams and mark on the crank sprocket. Just remember to take the paper out before you put your valve covers back on.
The only missing piece in the kit was the 6AN Viton fitting that is for the EVAP manifold. We were almost dead in the water without it until we went to a local hose and fitting shop. For $28 I had a steel braided line and fitting made to get me by, and it worked! By 3:30 AM Saturday we fired her up and I was on the road! Had to get 25A fuses for the fan/IC relays to come on but that was the only setback post install! Monday I emailed Whipple and they overnighted me the fitting and I'm now running it with the intended hose. I also have the bypass restrictor on the way as I do have the hesitation a lot are seeing.
I left my home in VA Wednesday night to drive 286 miles to Ohio for my current work rotation and I got 20.6 mpg. Amazing considering the amount of up and down mountains I travel on(150 miles until I reach I-77 in Charleston, WV). The car drives amazing and has better mannerisms than a stock tune! Wednesday morning we installed my DSS Carbon Driveshaft as well. No NVH whatsoever! I just need to get a McLeod RXT, half shafts, and some suspension mods. Can't thank members on here and our Facebook Whipple S550 group for all the tips and answers! Jason Martin was always there to help and answer questions and the customer service at Whipple can't be beat!
