Well got the tune loaded and drove the car. It’s hard to believe I drove this car around for 1.5 years running so bad. The car runs perfect now with the Wengerd tune. Drives like a stock car. Amazing! After countless hours trying to get the drivability issues fixed Wengerd fixed it with the first tune he sent me. Just sent my second log to him.

Pretty standard review. He knows his stuff and won’t treat you like an Ahole like the big names will.

I don’t know if this frowned upon or if I’ll be shunned from the group forever, buuuuttttt…

does he do ghost cam tunes? How does that work with the RTD device? Guess you have to swap tunes back and fourth in the app?

I believe he did/does. I know he did at one point. If you’re auto, they are tough to make drivable for more than just sitting at car shows idling to show off. You can ask him. For manual cars it’s not as bad since you can modulate the clutch and RPM where you take off from.

Nope nothing different. Just flash back and drive. When you do the new TDN tune though, long press on the tune and pick full write. That’s for the new tune he sends you. But you should be good to go back to your old tune for now. And normally he will email you same day or next business day. Just holidays man. It’s brutal for everyone.
What is the difference between "Full Write" and just tapping on the file and selecting "Write Vehicle" ?

similar situation. mine ran well but many characteristics were better just with the first tune..... and I passed emissions with the idle tune after 100 miles which I had thousands of miles on previous tune to never pass and to be told I didn't know what I was talking about all inputs were turned on with previous company, and they definitely were not.

That’s normal for the big tuners. Their secretaries will tell you anything to get you to go away.
definitely true. sucks b/c I have a pretty good idea what the issue was with those tunes and why it wouldn't set the monitors but was told I need to put the car back to stock n/a to get it to pass.

That shouldn't be necessary. Glad you and Mr. Wengerd got it worked out. You can easily check your monitor readiness on the RTD app.
if not, a decent scan tool for a few hundred dollars like Autel can give you a a ton of information about what's happening. As long as your monitors are set to ready and complete, you should have no issues pissing emissions unless your state requires a sniffer. But i haven't heard of that since OBD1

yes I knew it was not necessary but that is the story i was told. I'm not a tuner but I do work on cars for a living. i drove it for the summer with expired plates till I was positive it was a tune issue. then I had it tuned with wengerd.

Does Wengerd or any of you guys have an opinion on tuning along with a Soler TB?

@Wengerd Performance,
I'm looking to buy a car from a member here and he is running the RTD with one of your tunes. What is the process on getting everything switched over to me upon the purchase? I already have the TDN app for my explorer; do I just get an invite to that network and you transfer my email information and whatnot over to that RTD serial number/account?

I have a bone stock 2021 GT A10, and I went with Wengerd primarily for the improvements of the 10R80 tuning.

I cannot say enough good things about the experience and the tune.

  • Wengerd responded promptly to any pre-sales questions.
  • I purchased the RTD device, credits, and tune directly from Wengerd's website.
  • I followed the instructions on the YouTube video emailed to me after purchase with no issues using only my iOS device (iPhone 16 Pro) with 0 hiccups (I kept my battery on a charger during reading and writing).
  • Was able to get ~3 reviews (as I sent logs back) in a single work day due to Wengerd's fast response times.
Background:
I come from the DSG in VWs (MK7 GTI) and the ZF8 in the A90 Supra along with track time experience with Porsche's PDK in both the GT3 and GT4. I also have the 10R80 in my F-150 3.5L.

Stock for Stock: Mustang 10R80 < DSG < ZF8 < PDK

Stock Experience:
I've heard great things about the 10R80 in regards to gearing and shift speed, and from a drag/roll racing perspective, it is certainly a fast and aggressive transmission. I laugh out loud at the hard and fast upshifts in Drag mode.

However, in Normal, Sport+, and paddle shifting modes, there a lot left to be desired IMO.

In Normal, it lugs the engine.

In Sport+, it doesn't hold the RPMs long enough before deciding to shift up (too agressively) in moderate throttle scenarios, and downshifts are abrupt in low/moderate speed scenarios. When driven at 75%+ in Sport+, it mostly behaves as expected, but IMO, Sport+ is a spirited street mode, and it's clunky at lower speeds in between spirited sprints.

Paddle shifting is mostly OK on the upshifts if not a little delayed from input to shift (shift speed is quick, though). 3-2 downshifts are harsh. 2-1 harsh as well - not that we should be doing that, but the ZF8 handled it very smoothly as long as RPMs allow. That was impressive.

Enter Wengerd's 93 + 10R80 tune:
I didn't expect any gains from a stock n/a 93 tune, but I asked for whatever would apply because why not. Car feels "quicker", but it's likely due to better shifting patterns.

On to the 10R80. Wengerd's tune absolutely changed the experience, and as many have said, the car should have came this way from the factory.

In Normal mode, the car no longer lugs the engine, no longer skips shifts, no longer races to the highest gear. It keeps the RPMs at a pleasant for putting around town; however, throttle response is greater, and downshift response is greater when looking to pass or pick up speed. You don't need to give it 90% throttle for the car to realize you want to go faster and downshift. The transmission behaves in a much more natural manner in normal based on pedal input. Much closer to how you'd want to drive if it were manual. Your input-to-the-car's-response time is decreased and the shifts are smoother (already pretty smooth in Normal). Even for moderately spirited driving, I could see Normal mode being able to smoothly handle it without needing Sport+.

In Sport+, the transmission's manners are much better at both low and high speeds. This was very welcomed. Low speed take offs don't upshift as hard, spirited driving is smooth, but low/moderate speed transmission behavior is MUCH smoother. You can throw it in Sport+ for your trip and leave it there without feeling like the car is ready to pounce at going 10mph. Couldn't do that stock. Sport+ downshift logic is much better downshifting sooner and smoother upon deceleration. It really is a joy and doesn't feel "too much" for the street.

Track and Drag mode were not touched.

In Paddle Shift mode, the input time was decreased! I love this. The stock 10R80 tuning (and VW's stock DSG tuning) make it to where the time between you push the paddle and the time the car decides to shift is too long IMO (shift is fast in both, though). That "input" delay is much shorter on the ZF8 and PDK transmissions. Those cars seems to shift before the paddle returns to its original position. Wengerd fixed that right up, and the input delay is dramatically reduced putting it on par with the ZF8 in the Supra. Push the paddle, and before it's returned to its original position, the car is shifting or has already shifted. This is the kind of "direct connection" that often feels lost when going from manual to automatic, but better performing autos (torque converter or dual clutch) negate that by ensuring little "input delay".

Paddle shifting tuning resulted in reduced input delay, smoother upshifts, and smoother downshifts (smoother downshifts was really important to me). 6-5-4-3 are very smooth. 3-2 is much smoother (have not tried 2-1).

Conclusion:
  • Not sure about MPG, but I drive fast everywhere anyways
  • $798 out the door
  • Absolutely worth it for 10R80 transmission tuning alone if you're sensitive to auto trans performance (if this is your first performance auto or you haven't experienced the other trans I mentioned, ignorance is bliss)

And HALF the cost of a Lund "taco bell" tune where all they do is drop a few templates on your stock tune and "its done". Nice to hear you enjoyed both his customer service and the actual tune performance.

Another new satisfied customer of Wengerd! Tuner came in today, uploaded my stock tune, and 5 minutes later after getting my credits added to my account, i had a baseline tune!

Did a 'step rev' log, a few 3k pulls and a few wot pulls. Im on my 2nd revision right now. I had to keep doing them because even in 3rd gear i cannot keep traction now! 😜

I have to say the new 'drive mode' is incredible! no more skip shifts, it holds higher gears now, and sport/+ is incredible. The few times i was able to actually get on it, it was a whole new monster over 4k rpm! I will have to try it out more tomorrow, but im really impressed!

I cant wait to see what the final revision feels like. As everyone else says, his response and customer service is incomparable to no one else. 👍👍
