Hey all,

So I've got the ultimate first world problem - I bought a brand new 2020 HEP R from a dealer in California, had it shipped to Shelby American in Vegas for the SE package, and then had it shipped to my house in Massachusetts. In the whole time I've had it I've only put about 1100 miles on it. It's my dream car, but with the crazy amounts these cars are selling for, I'm scared to drive it!

I know, the purists will yell at me for turning my car into a garage queen. It wasn't my intention at first, I swear. Initially the lack of driving was just real life getting in the way. But then I started seeing these things sell online for big money and every time I take it out I get nervous that somebody's going to blow a red light and turn my super rare car into a junkyard queen. But I want to drive... something, and I need to decide whether I should sell, or keep as a collection, or keep and drive.

The big question that I have no answer for - Does having the GT350SE package added on add to the value of the car? Or does it depreciate it because it's no longer original... Even though the work was done by Shelby proper, does that not matter and lower the value the same way that Lucky Eddie's race shop's aftermarket parts would have? I'll post the full list of mods and additional details below.

Looking for honest opinions, or maybe even some actual appraisers I could contact. If this thing is worth a ton, I could sell it and buy something less rare than more fun. A nice Dark Horse in Grabber Blue seems pretty appealing right about now. Or if I've actually ruined the value of the car with my add-ons, that's honestly good news to me and I can just drive it like I want to. Thanks in advance!

GT350SE package details are here. I ended up paying around $20k for the upgrades... I have 90% of the original take-off parts including the carbon wheels(Shelby lost my original suspension). The biggest Shelby add-ons off the top of my head are:
  • All standard SE package parts like wheels, seat covers, Full suspension upgrade, lowered about 1"
  • Painted stripes, including side stripes with special G.T.350 livery (gotta have the periods like the original!)
  • Harness bar painted in Guardsman Blue
  • Shelby quick shifter kit
  • Special anniversary aluminum rear badge in Guardsman Blue
  • Dress-up parts including Shelby coolant reservoir and valve covers
I also added a full PPF wrap and ceramic coating, professionally installed.

Pics attached.

I don't think the SE package adds value to the car in general. Maybe a few people might want it for what you put into it. These cars get the biggest $ when unmolested, even when it's SA doing the fondling.

If you have $20k on top of the MSRP + maybe an ADM if you paid one? You're probably around what you have into it. Low $100ks I'd guess.

Only one way to find out. Put a for sale sign on it and see what it yields.

It would add value to the car. You actually have a CSM # just like the originals. The cars used to all be built by Shelby and were given a CSM numbers as the VIN. I can’t remember if it was 68 or 69 that’s when production went to ford. All cobras, Daytona, and they first few years of 350/500 production have CSM # for the vin. This is now as far as history is concerned a “real” GT350 as only cars built by Shelby get a CSM # which makes it a “real Shelby”. Smart buy 🙌🏼

So in short answer in time your car will be worth more than a regular 350R for 2 reason.

1) It’s a 1 yr production HPE car

2) It it has a real Shelby Mfg. Vin as all the originals did.

The end

They LOST your original suspension? lol

Market will dictate value. Put it on BaT with a reserve that you think is high enough and see what happens.

I'm guessing the OPs car is about a $125k or so car. The 1100 mile unmodded cars have been going for about $110k with fees on BaT. What say you Wingnutt?

Long term, unmolested worth more. Car is not “ruined”, but it seems a waste of money since you won’t drive it. Given the choice between an identical stock car and yours for the same money , I’m going for the stock one.

opposite for me…I for one, appreciate the mods at a discount and have been buying mod’ed cars since 1987, to include my current 350R that came with CAI and multiple Lund tunes. 54,000 miles later, I am a happy camper and will gladly play it again Sam 😬👍🏼

So, I have one s well. Unmolested with the exception of ppf and film. Most of these cars that change hands do so not through being advertised. The current market on these in low miles, one owner, isn’t low 100’s. Not to say one hasn’t sold for that. I have two standing offers that are considerably above that are a phone call away and don’t have timeframes for fruition on them. That said, I don’t want to upset or offend anyone, but in this case the tag from SA hurts the cars value. It is what it is. I was going to mod mine but pulled back on that because of what the values did. That is what it is as well. Even in the current climate of the US these cars bring more then a 500HE painted stripe car. I don’t see that changing any time soon but actually expanding with time. My 500HE(vinyl)Cftp is an absolutely amazing vehicle. It’s a stunning car. But that said as well, the HER really is on another level. I can’t say why but when we’ve had people over, even not car guys, recognize something about the car. There’s just an appreciation there that’s different. If it was my car SA did I’d enjoy it, and wouldn’t give to ….’s about value. I wouldn’t disappoint myself by not getting a number I thought was there in my head but wasn’t. Now if it’s a need for finance’s for whatever reason that may come up, which I get happens, then all that goes out the window. Best of luck regardless, beautiful car. Love the matching bar, have one in wimbledon white sitting I never installed.

If you are worried - get a stated value insurance policy......that's what I did....so if someone blows through a stop light there is no arguing with an insurance company what your car is worth.

I look at it like this- I have friends with exotics that drive their cars and put miles on it..... one with close to 30K miles on his Huracan- another that picked up a new Huracan Technica last year and is all ready at 5K miles on it - another who picked up a 1 of 300 in the US NSX Type S and also on track to put 4-5K miles on it....

And if thats not enough.....one of my buddies neighbors owned this .....

2017 Ford GT with 50K miles on it
50k-Mile 2017 Ford GT for sale on BaT Auctions - closed on September 20, 2022 (Lot #84,728) | Bring a Trailer

He sold it- bought another and is putting miles on it also....he also owns an 06 Ford GT with over 100K miles on it ......these cars are his daily drivers ......

If my kids get 30% less for my car after Im gone....they will live..... 15K miles on my R and going strong.....

Prior to this I owned an original 67 Shelby GT500..... I drove the living crap out of that car too....in fact most people thought it was fake because you could tell it was a driver- rock chips exc...and no one believed that someone would actually drive one around to a bunch of shows....

I actually like owning my R more then the 67. While the 67 was.....well it was a 1967 Shelby GT500 (I mean think if someone ran into that lol).....I like driving this R 100 times better.....

Now for a bit of truth :cwl:

Most of this is conjecture obviously but, unless you put it up for sale no one knows what the SE package will do. It may make it worth more. I doubt it will hurt the value. In the future, it may positively affect it significantly.

You had a real Shelby before it went to Shelby. Its still a real Shelby. Those were words right from Carroll's mouth. Ill take the mans word against any opinion by this group.

But Carroll would also tell you to drive the damn thing. The enjoyment is in the driving, not just owning it
