Don’t get me wrong, I do not like start/stop (S/S).

- Breakpoint is ~7 seconds. Any more than that, you’re wasting fuel.
- S/S saves ~6% overall city.

it’s all here:

What if we like wasting fuel? jk
I have doubts that the cutoff is as low as 7 seconds but even if it is... it's like the previous poster said, it's like stepping over dollars to save pennies.
I can see if your city has some crazy traffic and long lights but I would rather not cycle my car on and off for an 8 second stop just because it saved me 1 second of idling worth of fuel.

As I said, I do not like S/S, and don’t want a S/S vehicle. But soon I won’t have a choice.

Jason proves, with data, that generally speaking it’s economically effective.

He does not get into the overall costs of a vehicle with/without S/S.

Whichever cars have such a system, it always goes with an automatic transmission,
so I always knew my Mustang wouldn't have it. 😁
Hello; Stopped by a ford dealership today. They have two 2024 GT's. Both automatics. The service manager ran the vin for me. No cylinder deactivation. A red one and a black one. Both listed above $55K so out of my budget.
If I can find a manual not loaded up I might get one for $45K or so.

There are some idiots on 7G posting about how much they like it
These are the same kind of idiots that likely resulted in the mustang getting glued on iPad screens versus any real beneficial digital upgrades like say a PDR that the Camaro had in 2016. They were probably in the S650 sensing/focus group.

Emissions I guess but it seems like a trivial amount of savings at best
Not even emissions because the cat cools off and needs a rich shot of gas to get it to light off again

so if you get a 420/430 with a CEL, does cat protection still kick in ?

Did you saw it on the ECU tables of it's speculation?

Because if that was true, it means that SS does real harm because it will worsen oil quality and cause even more wear than what I anticipated.

Mine was deactivating the VVT for both banks of cylinders.. Does that count? It didn't help my MPG though. What a pain in the ass diagnosing that was when I was on my 3rd set of melted cats and a new engine. The VCT's that ford uses have been shitty since 2011 and that resulted in me deactivating 5 cylinders and 500hp myself. Permanently.

The car was fast as hell. When it ran right.

Using the existing 2024 Ford Build and Price web site, a 2024 GT with no options is $44,750.

If you're pursuing a 2024, you'll need to use Ford's or commercial systems and search for a base 2024 GT.

Here are three, 2024 GTs within 100 miles of Memphis:

$44,290: https://shop.ford.com/inventory/mus...&year=2024&ownerPACode=05993&intcmp=vhp-bb-si

$45,650: https://shop.ford.com/inventory/mus...&year=2024&ownerPACode=05134&intcmp=vhp-bb-si

$45,945: https://shop.ford.com/inventory/mus...&year=2024&ownerPACode=04833&intcmp=vhp-bb-si

Order banks are open on 2025s. The suggested retail price for a 2025 GT without options is $45,460. Ford is expected to begin building '25s in November.

Ford also has a certified used vehicle program which may have vehicles worth looking into.

Hello; Thanks for the links. Turns out they are among what I used in the last few days. Using the Ford based inventory search i find a manual trans about 100 miles away.

I tried the build and price method and am disappointed with the results. First time after going thru all the choices it only sent my build to the closest dealer. I had not seen the small descriptor at the bottom of the page. Seems only that one dealer gets the information. I was mistakenly thinking my build would be sent to all dealers in my area.
I had already stopped in that shop physically. They have two GT's with auto trans. A black & red. Both have an MSRP around $55K which puts them over my budget. I went in again yesterday and talked with them again. Not much in the way of incentives.

Tried going to another dealers website using their chat feature. Laid out the parameters i seek along with the price range of $43K to $46K. Got a stock e-mail so far and a promise to get in touch but such has not yet happened.
My impression so far is dealers with inventory hope to sell what they have sitting around which makes sense. Imagine I can do an order but that may be restricted to the 2025 model.

I'd hazard a guess the cats don't cool enough to warrant that extra bit of fuel. I understand what you are getting at though.

My understanding from my friends at Toyota, Bosch, and Ford is emissions doesn't matter at idle, that the EPA only tests them on a rolling road with the hood up. Or did, VW might have screwed that up...

It’s true. You can see it in the logs as well. Even for the brief amount of time spent in DFCO it still has to initiate fuel rich to relight the cats.

The reason for the loud start is to light the cats faster. Also the reason the cats are so close to the engine. Idle emissions is a thing.

VW screwed diesels for sure.
